How do I set it so that I can have a positive number from my taxmen? No matter where the science or entertainment sliders are I never get any money from the taxmen.

Huh? Your taxmen are when you click on your citizens in the city screen and they turn into entertainers, then into taxmen.

I, like Tomoyo, am not sure what you are asking. It is prolly because you are unfamilar with the mechanics of the game. So, I will try to explain those to you.

I believe you are asking how to get a positive amount of gold per turn, hereafter called gpt.

Here is how money (gold) works in the game.

There are 4 ways to get gold in the game:

1. Be given it: Minor tribes (Barbarians and goodie huts), peace settlements, and trade agreements. These have a minor role (with the exception of trade agreements) and the sums of money usually is not large.

2. Money from the ground: There are three types of essential resources in the game: Shields-Production, Commerce-Money, and food-Population

3.Wealth: This is a city "improvement," where all of your shields are converted to commerce, in fixed ratios that vary in the game.

4. Taxmen: This is done by changing citizens away from the production to taxes.

Once you have all the money gathered, you decide how to allocate the money: Science (goes into towards on the Technology, obviously), Luxuries, and Cash Reserves.

To change what % of your income goes into cash vs Science vs Luxuries, go to your Domestic Advisor (F1). On the top right hand corner, there are 2 sliders, one for science and one for luxuries. Whatevers leftover goes into cash reserves.

Hopefully, this answers your question.

Sorry about the rudimentary and puzzling nature of my question. Indeed, I am very unfamiliar with the mechanics of the game as I am actually in the process of "reading" it for a new media class. Thank you both very much.

You need to study Civ3 for a media class? :crazyeye: Boy I envy your school.

DO NOT!!! Don't try to study mechanics, nor gameplay, nothing. Your school time will go down....
