I haven't played in a few years and decided to play again, but just realized my DVD drive on my laptop is not working--I can't insert any disk.

Any way I can play? Also for the future when I have it fixed, isn't there a way to play without stuffing a disk in there? Who wants to carry around disks on the road?

Only if you buy a download version, eg from Steam.

Without getting into using cracks and the ethics of those, there is one thing I just thought you might be able to do.

If you have another machine, you could fire up disk utility and make an image of the CD, then transfer that to your laptop. I am not a lawyer, but depending on where you are in the world, making backup copies in this manner for own use is generally permissible.

I'd tell you exactly how to do this, but I happen to be at work at the moment :P Though, if I recall correctly, it's somewhere in the toolbar by default.

Otherwise, you could do as AlanH suggested.

Sorry Mods.
Actually I just got the same advice mentioned by celesfar from the Apple store after I found out it would take 5-7 days  of leaving my machine with them to look at the stupid superdrive.

I'll just get the drive fixed when I can find someone to look at it same day.

Cheers
