Successful MultiPlayers

I am attempting to generate a list of Civ3 PTW players that have been successful in playing online. 52 To date

The following 52 Civers have successfully played PTW online without any major difficulties. When a game is played with any of the following Civers ask any of them to add you to the list or track me down in the game room and tell me your name and the person that you played on the list. After I verify that it is authentic I will be glad to add you to the list. I am attempting to avoid as many crashes as possible not eliminate anyone from enjoying the game.

The new 1.14f patch has cleared up many of the problems that were encountered in the 1.04f patch. There is a dramatic improvement in game flow. If you are in the setup room and see any of the following Civers you can be assured that they have played in or hosted a game with other like Civers. So, look out for them and maybe, we can avoid as many problems as possible in the future.

Please have, CivIII with the 1.29f patch (Game of the Year is pre-patched with 1.29f), a retail copy of PTW with the 1.14f patch and enter the setup room through the PTW disk ( not gamespy) , if you're behind a router try the following set up for router; initial TCP port 47624, outgoing and incoming TCP and UDP ports to 2300-2400 range (omission in read me). This is necessary to host not to play. There also seems to be a problem with AOL users. Turn off all programs that are running in the background except systray and explorer. If you crash for any reason do yourself a favor and reboot every time. To make the game run smoother: turn off all animations and music from the main menu of PTW before entering the lobby. It has also been suggested that some type of internet cleaner (ad-aware, sysbot cleanser) should be used to help the out of sync crashes you may get. Check out download.com (utilities) for available free downloads.

Last but not least, if 1 player is not 100% then the game will fail. Please help anyone that you can with these requirements (to get the word out), you can use this as your "good deed" for the day and possibly make a fellow Civer, a "Happy Civer".

As a final hint, if you are attempting to play with multiple players and you have continual crashes, try pairing off and run a quick test game. This is the only way that I have come up with to see which Civer may be the cause.

If you have any questions or suggestions let me know so I can pass it on.

HAPPY CIVING:

What have been the problems with the AOL users? Are there any work arounds (other then leave AOL)?
Thanks.
Tom

Really not sure TNorton, it may have to do with AOL firewalls. Although I can't give you spicific examples I'm sure I have seen a secondary link to a sight spicifically for AOL users. I would venture to say they are for the same reasons as the problem with PTW. Hopefully this is going to be part of the next patch that Firaxis releases. There may be some savvy programers around that may be able to help you also. If I hear of anything I will certainly post it. My purpose is to get as many Civers connected as possible, not to eliminate anyone. I have this post and an identical one at apolyton hoping that one day in the not too distant future this thread will no longer be needed.

Good Luck TNorton

AOL uses proxies for their dial-up (most likely broadband too), which is how the parental controls work.

Pretty sure you are SoL.

I also completed a game over the weekend (Sunday).
Though I can't remember the names of those others involved, I believe one was 'Lord Partrick'....

Probably would have completed another, but three (or was it two?...) dropped out early (not sure if they left, or tech problems on their end...), and the others ('King Richard The Lionheart' and 'RythaPlaya') I was playing against wanted more opposition, so we called it. But I am confident we would have finished, had we allowed it to develop some.

So far those two games are the only ones I have actually had time to try since 1.14f. While it's ONLY two games, I am batting 1.000....

My user name for PTW is 'K72', btw.

I've played a bunch of times, but my game with you ajer was one of the best ;)

I'm in exams right now, but soon they'll be done and the fun can begin in earnest... i'd love to get a small group together that can play mildly frequently, but for only a couple/few hours at a time.

If you're interested, PM me.
