The Gaians are supposed to play nice: no Boreholes, lots of Forests, loose base builds, no atrocities. After all, if you can win using the spirit of the faction, why use a different strategy?

Of course, all of my games use the same strategy, developing slowly instead of exploiting everything for fast growth. Since I can still win on Transcend, I see no reason to do otherwise.

Anyway, someone else take it. I just played.

Year of our Lord 2230. CoG (Continuation of Government) Bunker 17:37 May 12th.
Albow, the president looks unimpressed. With his thick Austrian accent (taken from the archive) he bellows “Where is status report?” A scared looking underling pipes up, “Sir, its grave. Mr President, the Believers have launched a planet buster right into the heart of the empire! All is lost, over 13 million dead sir, and we are tracking 4 more incoming!”

Albow looks up “It is not over. I’ll be back! Come with me if you want to live …” They run off camera shot.

The director claps and says, “Albow, terrific, you are the most respected holovid action star! Brilliant, fabulous darrrling”.

Albow’s aide comes over and says “You know, with your popularity, you really could be the president”. Albow looks up, and his faces falls half in shadow, half in red light. “Its not a r(t)umor” is all he utters.

September 22: Albow meets with Lal, one of his biggest fans. For an autograph, Albow is able to acquire Cyberethics!

December 14: Believers use mind control probe to steal the base Morgan energy. Local traitors also deliver 16 energy credits to the raving lunatic Miriam. She is heard as saying “Stick that in your film you filthy dog Albow”. Albow knows she’s only angry because he ditched Miriam on a date and left her with the bill.

2231 January 7: Miriam tries to beg for peace if only Albow would go on another date and also take back the statue of himself he gave to the University faction. Albow refuses, stating “You’d have to be the last living thing on Planet before I go on a date with you Miriam, and I’m including mindworms in this!”

June 18: Yang battleship spotted off coast. Local fisherman is reported to have said “crud”

December 4: Evil Religious lunatics destroy Green recon rover.

2232 February 21: Riots break out in Morgan Grav because they didn’t get the holodrama “Married with Mindworms” Albow declares rioters moronic.
Feb 22: OOS Maritime also riots after seeing episodes of said show. Same day, Albow advises his cabinet that certain city projects can be rushed for ½ price, if 2 turns remain. Hopes history looks on this financial decision with favour. Albow declares “Get down, they are comming”

2233 March 2: Albow declares start of secret project codename “Xenoempathy dome” in capital and “Asthetic virtue” in Children of Eaarth city. State run radio and holovid are confused, whether they should broadcast announcing secret projects. Some sub-editors are never heard from again after State Security Services pay them a friendly visit.

March 14: Riots in Flower Perch because of lack of access to toilet paper. Albow states on State Media “Every citizen’s duty is to be full of pride and stuff … err, my ear thingy fell out, can I start again?”

April 1: Scientists uncover Superstring theory from alien artifact. They think it is a recepy for Silly string at first due to date confusion.

May 16: Albow announces “Our glorious forces retook Morgan Energy from those mad bible people. I told you Miriam, I’d be back!”

2234 Jan 1: With wandering settler, founded ‘Whazzup?” because I didn’t know where you wanted to go with this fellow.

Feb 27: Albow outraged and calls the airforce “girly woose men” after Miriam’s battleship takes out attacking Green airpower!

December 31: Sneaking into this year, the University gloats about finishing planetary datalinks. With a Brain (pinky and the) voice, Zakarov is heard to say “We’re going to take over the world muhahahah”

2235 Jan 29: Albow signs forms for massive cash expenditure for rushing rec commons in Morgan Banks. Afterwards is heard talking to finance minister “What was it you give me drinking? My head hurting now”

Albow also curses airforce again for being “pansy men” for failing to bomb Believer supply roads.

Dec 8: Thousands of Believer troops spotted heading for Morgan Energy.

2236 Feb 2: Airforce finally proves its worth by taking out the enemy column of troops without loss. Albow goes on national Holovid “I have always been fully supporting of our airpoeples – they are not girly woose men”

March 13: Albow went to give Zakarov another statue of himself for the Uni campus. Get Nural Grafting for some tech, err, unsure which one, was the punch spiked? Zakarov also manages to steal 200 credits out of pocket but promises to pay us back.

December 11: Many thousands of crazy bible carrying troops seen heading for boarder. Bible FM states this is just a peaceful pilgrimage and that Jesus carried Chaos guns too.

2237 Feb 14: In celebration of Valentine’s day, Green Airpower destroys a Believer sea former. In further air strikes, the last of Miriam’s troops approaching Morgan Energy are destroyed.

Feb 15: Disaster strikes! A Green battleship is sunk by a Believer sea colony pod! Albow is outraged. “Get me the rear admiral – he is a girly woose man!”

December 1: Chariman Yang comes for an official visit and to see a preview of Albow’s latest holovid blockbuster “Children’s Crèche Cop”. During intermission, Yang demands Superconductor. Albow agrees for 50 credits and that Yang stop his vendetta against Lal. He agrees. Albow declares on State TV that night “It is good when good people are getting along good together, now come with me if you want to live …”

2238 April 20: Miriam’s forces are destroyed by airpower as they approach Morgan Energy. On Bible TV Miriam states “Our troops lack of weapons and skill is easily made up for their willingness to die for the final victory”. Albow mutters that she stole that line from a movie.

April 21: The population in the core cities around Gia’s landing panic as Believer troop transports and battleships are spotted approaching shore! Albow announces “We will fight them on the beaches, we will fight them in the hills … err, and come with me if you want to live! I’ll be back”

2239 February 19: Air strikes destroy enemy troop transport and artillery units approaching Morgan Energy.

March 2: Provost Zakarov is pissed off that the university statue of Albow is defaced. He demands the technology to repair it. Albow refuses saying that “You are such a puny girly man” Zakarov, after finally having the transmission translated, is outraged and declares vendetta.

March 3: On State TV, Albow declares that it is time he goes off to make a sit-com. “I am going to make a show about nothing! It will be great. I’ll be back!” and promptly retires.

 

[The Strategos]

Former leader Strategos reappeared today retaking power. Strategos had gone missing during the Gaian-Peacekeeper War and was presumed dead. Unconfirmed rumors swirled that he had become separated from his unit during fighting and had survived by luring mindworms close enough to grab them and eat them raw.

2240:
Month 1: The Office of Strategos (OOS) announced a new government plan today called “The Green Plan.” The Green Plan is aimed at relocating colonists from new, smaller settlements to special “human preserves,” decreasing the number of cities and increasing the amount of forests. Strategos reportedly states, “How am I supposed to run naked through the trees with all these boreholes and colonists everywhere?”
Month 3: The OOS announced the completion of Mind/Machine Interface research, started under the previous administration and the starting of researching Bio-Engineering. The OOS released a statement saying “We have the best mumbo-jumbo on Planet.”
Month 6: Rec Commons at Morgan Gravitonics were rushed today. “Drones have a right to be happy too.” Read the official statement.
Month 12: Strategos appeared on national television today, waving a paper with casualty lists for the year. “Put this in your pipe and smoke it Lal.” He reportedly stated after divulging that the Gaian forces had destroyed a Believer transport and three infantry units.

2241:
Month 12: A believer probe team was destroyed today. Local military became suspicious when they saw a long line of men in robes carrying cross and banners saying “Deus Vult Hic” This brings the year total of Believer casualties to a cruiser, an infantry unit, and a probe team in what had been a year of relatively light fighting. The OOS issued a report saying “Lal is on his last legs, his crimes against Planet will soon be avenged.”

2242:
Month 3: The Marine Biology Lab is reportedly in Gaian hands today, having been wrested from their former owners, the University. In a daring covert operation, a probe team incited a rebellion that quickly allied itself to the superior Gaian nation.
Month 5: Operation “Thunder and more Thunder” was announced today. The operation is targeted at Consecrated Waters and includes the majority of Gaian airpower. During a question and answer session about the operation, Strategos giggled and said “Lal’s going to pee his pants over this one.”

2243:
Month 2: Operation “Thunder and more Thunder” reached a dramatic conclusion today as the surviving Believer citizens abandoned Consecrated Waters amidst heavy casualties.
Month 6: A University Probe was destroyed by local militia today. Pictures of the probe team prior to their destruction shows a group of bearded men wearing “University U.” t-shirts.
Month 11: Punishing air attacks continued today, claiming the destruction of two Believer Missile Foils that were threatening Blackroot Palace.

2244:
Month 1: The nation is in morning today as University claims the capture of a Penwa Mobile Unit by a probe team stationed on the University/Gaian border. The OOS confirmed this adding, “See kids, this is why you shouldn’t use drugs, you end up University zombie mind slaves.” Strategos promised swift retaliation saying “Quake in your boots Lal, your time is coming”
Month 12: Operation “Thunder: The Sequel” continued today, aimed at Loaves and Fishes. To date four Beliving jets and an infantry unit have been killed in this operation.

2245:
Month 7: A fierce, 7 month battle ended today leaving Gaians victorious as usual. This latest battle was fought for control of the University’s New Arzamas. Three units were destroyed, with no significant Gaian casualties reported. The battle resulted in the capture of the Planetary Datalinks. Strategos visited the battle site soon afterwards, stating “We have no idea what this ‘Planetary Datalinks’ does, but whatever it does, I’m sure we already did it better.”

2246:
Month 2: The OOS announced its latest operation code named “Hammer, Anvil, and lots of Thunder” today. The operation calls for a massive air assault on Glory of God, followed by its capture by mindworm forces. The OOS envisions that this will lure Believer infantry out of their city strongholds, making it easier for the Gaian air force to destroy them.
Month 8: Glory of God finally fell to advance Gaian forces. The shell-shocked Believers quickly surrendered without a shot. Strategos reportedly stated “The capture of Glory of God represents a hot poker being shoved up Lal’s *rest of broadcast censored*”

2247:
Month 12: Operation Hammer, Anvil, and lots of Thunder continued according to plan, resulting in the destruction of four Believer infantry.

2248:
Month 1: Gaian scientists announce the discovery of Bio-Engineering and now are focusing their attention on Advanced Subatomic Theory. The OOS released a statement saying “We need subatomic theory to be able to discover if Lal’s a man or not.”
Month 10: Miriam called for a vote for planetary governor, advancing herself as a candidate to run against current planetary governor, Strategos. She was defeated by a 208-76 margin. Strategos reportedly responded, “Why did she bother? Can’t she count?”

2249:
Month 5: A holiday was announced today with the complete surrender of Zakharov and the University forces. In a simultaneous assault, Gaian forces captured Zvedny Gorodok and the University Base. Along with the University Base was the capture of the Empath Guild which was stationed there. Strategos announced that “The University has sworn a pact to us, showing that research and environmentalism need not be enemies as long as the environmentalists beat the researchers with a giant beating stick every once and a while.” He also remarked “Take note Lal, your next.”
Month 11: Four more believing units were killed this year in Operation Hammer, Anvil, and lots of Thunder. The operation has been so successful that the OOS is reportedly contemplating another land advance into Believer territory.
Month 12: A broken Strategos announced his retirement today for medical reasons. A source within the OOS confirmed that Strategos is undergoing psychiatric treatment over his inability to accept the fact that the Peacekeepers and Gaians are now friends. The treatment reportedly involves a target of Lal, a gun, and a beautiful woman with a large stick.

Too bad, I was having fun reading it... I haven't played in years, but whenever I'm able to step away from GalCiv II for more than three minutes at a time I may just have to see if I can find my Alpha Centauri CD adn dust it off.

And heck, I never even realized there was an expansion, might have to see if I can get my hands on that, too.

2251. Economic trade deals are concluded with the Believing Remnant, providing a large influx to the Gaian Treasury. Many a Childrens Chreche is built, and the population of the Gaians begins to increase...

2252. The Human Hive constructs the Planetary Transit System, ushering in new growth for the Hive. When prodded for comments on the remoured ''Cyborg Factory'' bing developed by the hive cata replied, 'nonsense! hiverian troops cannot in any case defeat our worm corps, cyborgs or not!''

2253. The Human Hive follows up its air war on the Believers with the capture of The Holy Fire. The Gaian Union population count, even without the Empath Guild clears 200 on the Planetary Council Vote Rating System.

2254. Citing lack of protection for our troops and populace at home, cata begins a Air Defense project, commisioning interceptors for most major bases. Momentum grows for a return towards 'Green' economics...

2255. The Lords Believers betray their agreement and declare war! Fortunatly cata had troops ready, and the believing air force is virtually annihilated. Troops begin advancing on major bases in the area.

2256. The Lords Believers surrender!!
The long awaited moment of Gaian superiority is here at last. Gaian troops have also managed to take the Manifold Nexus.

The Xenoempathy Dome is completed. Gaian troops now move through fungus with vastly increased speed
Gaian forces move into position to take multiple Believer bases and Hive aircraft are spotted bombing Believing improvements.

2259(timewarp~) Lord Cata steps down from leadership of the Gaian Union, citing personal health reasons. The nation is left with a seemingly overwhelming superioty in economic considerations and a expanding military force...

Using techniques described by scientists in papers on Ecological Engineering and Centauri Empathy, he was grafted with Xenofungus. And so now he is known as...

Used to dealing with Earthbound kingdoms from bygone eras he surveys the Gaian kingdom and is confused by all these shiny implements of war and peace. He surveys some more...

Thinking about pruning some bases with excess overlap. In the mean time, set them to producing supply crawlers. No real point to building base facilities if only 3-4 squares can be worked.

2264 Turn 5 Added Bases Monkey Water and Monkey Flower. Was put on notice that we are becoming inefficient. Changed economy to Green. While our population growth suffers, our impact on planet is lessened and our efficiency increases. <twitch> FUNGUS! <twitch> Hurried Hunter-Seeker <cough!> YANG WILL SUBSUME INTO THE FUNGUS! <cough!> Started Pholus. I don't know what to do with all of these formers on the mainland. Save them for the jump to mag-tubes? I don't remember what the deal is with energy and mag tubes (bonuses?).

Probably not the best set of 10 turns played, but it's been over a year since I last visited Planet... Supercollider is almost done. The land to the south could be turned into a fungal paradise, as could Yang's land to the north. Economy is good, still techs in 3 + 686 energy/turn. Mag tubes can be spread across our continent. I haven't really set up the workshop too well. I've been splitting units between Drop/Clean infantry or Mindworms. Only Isles for the sea though. Air power= Locusts + Choppers.
