Suggest a new leader for Civ 6

A few new suggestions;

Aq Qoyunlu -White Sheep- Turks - Uzun Hasan
Qara Qoyunlu -Black Sheep- Turks - Qara Yusuf
Timurids - Timur
Ilkhanids - Mahmud Ghazan

It won't ever happen since there are so many other more deserving and competent leaders for France, but I find Napoleon III a really fascinating figure.

Sorry for not updating the first post in awhile, I didn't catch they moved this thread. Just a reminder, please try to write something defending your choice. It doesn't have to be much, just a sentence is fine, but I'd like this thread to at least be informative even if Firaxis doesn't take any.

I also would appreciate it if people do a quick search to see if they have appeared in a Civ game. Plenty of suggestions were in Civ2 of Civ4. If you miss it, that's fine, but I have to go back and check. Also, this thread isn't to suggest new Civs, so don't try and get around that by suggesting a new leader for a new Civ. This is for already established Civs only.

William (the conqueror) for Normandy (France)

Interesting choice. Not for England? After all, he did rule that country while he only ruled part of France. Or did you mean specifically you wanted a Norman Civ?

He conquered England but his roots were in Normandy, so while I have little hope for Normandy's inclusion as a separate civ (perhaps in the 3rd and final CVI expansion?), his relation to French language and culture's much closer than the English one.

I wonder if we will ever see Stalin for the Russians, or Mao for the Chinese again. They were included in Civ IV and earlier games. I doubt it though.

It isn't too difficult either. Wikipedia has a list of every leader who made an appearance in the Civ franchise: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Civilization_(series)#Civilizations_and_leaders_represented

Please, in Portugal do not use Maria I as a leader because she not represent the Portuguese people.

Use instead D. Afonso Henriques.

I think for us "Portugueses", is the most important and relevant King/leader in history.

As Spanish I think the most important kings were Isabel the Catholic, Carlos I and Felipe II, many consider substitute of Isabel to Carlos I, probably because in his reign "Spain achieved its maximum extent", but really it was not.

Although Carlos was king of Spain and emperor of the holy Roman empire does not mean that the holy Roman empire was part of Spain.
Furthermore he was a foreigner and folksy king who did not speak Spanish and did not understand the traditions of the kingdoms of Spain, which will led to the wars of the commoners in Castile. It is true that then learned Spanish and was gradually adapting but it was especially the Holy Roman Emperor before the king of Spain, and his interest was to wage war by the Holy Roman Empire and not for the welfare of Spain.

Instead, Felipe II has been very, very badly treated by the "Spanish black legend". But he really was one of the best kings that Spain has had, their concern was to ensure the Spanish hegemony in Europe, its expansion by America and stop the Ottomans in the Mediterranean, improved administration (he was one of the kings who have worked more by Spain, if not the most), succeeded in unifying the Iberian Peninsula (Portugal and its colonies were annexed, kingdom that was part of Spain for about 60 years). He was not a cruel king, it is more after the defeat of the invincible navy, the black legend attributed him an attitude of indifference and the following sentence << I did not send my ships to fight the elements >> (phrase was invented 40 years later of the death of Felipe II by Baltasar Porreño), but it is completely false, when the navy was defeated was a blow for him and had a caring attitude with disaster survivors, unlike Elizabeth I of England who abandoned to their fate to 9000 English sailors who became ill after the war.

In conclusion, he was not a perfect king, much less. Yet Felipe II was a king who was concerned about Spain, loved his people, and worked tirelessly to improve the kingdom, a rare type of king in Spanish history.

So if developers of Civilization VI have read this for a casual, and decide to put Spain in the base game or DLC / expansion and want to switch to Isabel the Catholic for a change of leaders, please consider to Felipe II, and in his bibliography put their real life and not unjust lies of the black legend.

Thank you for reading and for your patience by my level of English. ;).

I wholeheartedly agree on Felipe II for Spain. If we are lucky enough for civs to have multiple leaders he would be a great choice, because Firaxis is not going to pass on female leaders if they can.

I've ideas for just about every civilization, but the two I'd be most excited for:

France – Louis IX
He’s a canonized saint in the Roman Catholic Church, a famed crusader, and the namesake of the city of St. Louis (one of the many towns I've called home)

Rome – Marcus Aurelius
He’s officially listed as the last of the Five Good Emperors and was a noted philosopher

Unorthodox pick, but I really want Robespierre for France.

Despite all the negatives, he was pretty much the central figure in the French revolution, ushering Europe into a brand new era, he's vastly different than any other French leader we've had in Civ, has a distinct personality that could lead to an interesting character, and is simply fascinating as a figure.

I know that he's mostly held in negative regard, and was generally a piece of :) :) :) :):) :) :) :):) :) :) :):) :) :) :), but this is a series that made Stalin, Mao, Attila, and several others leaders despite being generally evil people, I don't see why good old Robespierre wouldn't also qualify.

For the Dutch:
Stadhouder William III (17th century): Saved the United Provices from Louis XIV invasion and forged a strong alliance with England. Even became king overthere.
Queen Wilhelmina (20th century): Long reign (50 years) Strongwilled national leader in WWII
Philip the Good (15th century): French prince who ruled a growing set of counties and duchies, most of them in the Netherlands. He started the unification of the Netherlands, and had a strong cultural influence, being a very rich meceanas.

I like this game.

I did include some civs that I think should be included.
Spoiler Civs+Leaders :

  • Aztec - Ahuitzotl
  • Babylonian - Nabopolassa
  • English - Edward the Conqueror (Moving away from the whole 'England likes boats' thing.)
  • German - William I (Prussia and Germany are so stuck together in the modern era, and Bismark was in Civ V.
  • Roman - Marcus Aurelius or Trajan
  • Romania/Wallachia - Vlad III Dracula
  • Carthage - Hannibal Barca
  • Denmark/Vikings - Sweyn Forkbeard
  • Celts - Vercingetorix
  • Persia - Cyrus the Great
  • Inca - Topa Inca Yupanqui
  • Macedonia - Alexander (Does it count if he rules a different civ? :p)
  • Ottomans - Mehmed

I'm going to go with Mago I for Carthage, who founded the Magonid dynasty, strengthened the military to the point where Carthage became the strongest Phoenician military power in the western Mediterranean, formed an alliance with the Etruscans, and kept Greek ships out of the Strait of Gibraltar.

Winston Churchill has been my dream(note: totally not sexually) for a long time, just not sure how he would be designed.

Agenda?

Unique Ability?

Unique unit: Dreadnought, replaces Ironclad, stronger and faster but costs more to build.

What are Austria and Venice still empty?

Metternich, why? Probably the most practically influential politician in the 19th century, and arguably the most influential political figure in Europe since Napoleon.

Franz Joseph - represents well the might of the Autsro-Hungarian empire. Managed to keep the Habsburg realm relatively firm during really hard times. I'd say he was too old to count WWI against him...

Domenico Selvo - the real "good doge". Dandolo is mostly a joke and a funny face. Selvo's brilliant diplomatic policy played a considerable role in the rise of Venice to the power it eventually was.

And I saw Korea is empty too - Myeongseong, just for her being too cool to be true.

Metternich would be an interesting foil to Bismark in Germany, too.

I Agree. Felipe II is one of the best kings for Spain IMO (although one of the ones I know most, so this opinion may be biased). Would really like to see him on civ. Forget about Isabella just for one title please.
