My suggestion as posted yesterday in the big ol' thread:
When you conquer a city, you should be able to gift it to an ally. Just add more buttons to the same dialogue. One button for each other civ at war with the civ from which you conquered the city.
Example:
"What should we do with the city?"
1. I don't want it! BURN BABY, BURN!!!
2. We'll keep it. Install a new governer.
3. Let Victoria deal with it
4. Let Mansa Musa deal with it
It shouldn't be too complicated to code in. Have the receiving civ only have the two old choices (to avoid a city going round and round between a bunch of allies). I only wonder how easy it would be to teach the AI to deal with it correctly.
The idea is for a few civs to be able to take on a common enemy and not each need to keep precisely the civs they conquered. To give an example I would have liked in my last England game, this would have easily allowed me as England to conquer French holdings in North America and allow my friend there, Roosevelt, to take care of the conquered cities and benefit from my work there.

I don't really see the point of this. It would be very difficult to teach the AI this, and why couldn't you just gift the cities to your ally right after you took them? I don't think that would really take much work to do manually, they would probably only be one or two times in an entire game where this would come up.

I guess my problem is that the AI wouldn't just gift a conquered city after conquering instead of razing. The reason I thought of this was that far-off-but-hugenormous Persia conquered two French cities right next to my England just as I conquered Paris, and they razed both when I was very eager to have them. In reality this wouldn't have happened - they have a very close ally right near the cities, they would hand over control to them so as to avoid the tough job of occupying far-off cities. But they wouldn't slaughter the hundreds of thousands living there. This happened in the 20th century in my game!

mmm i think this can be possible (and cool) also for AI:

if AI takes one city AND you are allied in his war (permanent ally or simply friend)
he can choose to give you the city if: it is in your "influencial zone" (and ai don't like that city -> far from capital, not productive or too expensive) or if AI would raze the city (before razing it, they can choose to ask you!)

Personally I play with the no razing option turned on... The problem is that the AI is VERY reluctant to trade cities... I think that should be toned down a bit so that city trading becomes possible... It is silly that you can´t give a civ a city nearer his capital in exchange for one nearer yours, and far from them, of course.

This would be more useful than the feature that is already in the game: giving a city back to its original founder.

While I think it should be a relative rarity, it does make sense that the AI might offer a city to a nearby ally in cases where it would otherwise raze the city.
