I'm no big fan of Microsoft, but this ruling is ridiculous. Sun has given away market share year after year through bad business decisions and poor execution of any good plans they do have, so now they have requested and been awarded an injunction forcing Microsoft to ship Java in their OS. My read is that the judge is biased, and could not be impartial in his decision. Why should a company be forced to distribute their COMPETITOR'S software for them? Perhaps they should be forced to allow compatibility based on past problems, but taking on the distribution costs is overkill. Java is open source, and is freely downloadable on the net. That should be enough.

I guess I see Sun as a stupid little company that had the world to lose, and did. Too bad - they're no better than Microsoft in their business practices, they just lost and are bitter.

I agreed with your comments on the judge's decision sounding a bit biased until I read the article. After reading the article I agree with the decision he made.

Sun has made some majorly horrid business decisions in the past few years, but their servers are still kickass. This ruling is ludacris IMO. But what can you do...? Sue, appeal, etc.

Java is free. They want to be paid money for each Windows OS that is shipped with Java. Losing money for two straight years...well,
