I think we've all lamented how long it takes to scroll the map. There's the redrawing and the cinematic gradual slowdown of the map scroll after you get to the area of interest.
For me, this is an agonizingly long and tedious affair. And, I believe the reason why it is so slow is not due to technology, but rather design. Here's my angle.
Step One: Make sure your interface shows the minimap.
Step Two: Move your mouse cursor to the minimap area.
Step Three: Hold down your left mouse button and move the mouse cursor about the minimap.
Watch how the map draws out in the main window. Pretty darn fast, eh? Why is that? If I try to use the scroll feature outside of the minimap, it takes all kinds of time. I use the minimap like I just described and the result is lightning fast.
Ok, so what does this really mean? Maybe there's a way that we can change the camera/scroll behavior to mimic the minimap. I've taken a cursory look at the files, but haven't come up with anything conclusive yet. I'm hoping that this isn't a core feature.
