The image on the flag is a Koopa shell. I have no direct proof, like a statement from Miyamoto-sensei to that effect, but I remain positive that it's a Koopa shell.

On the whole, a pretty amusing expose.

But if you ask me, the person who wrote it almost seems to be taking it seriously: "Go check for yourself, these pictures are not faked. It's in the f---ing game." Dude, lighten up. You're getting a little too caught up in your own joke.

heh this reminds me of one of my friends from college who is a socialist. One day while a bunch of us were playing Mario 1 for NES (yes MARIO 1) the socialist started raving about how the game symbolizes capitalism. The only thing I remember him saying was how one of the goals is to get as many coins i.e. wealth as possible, therefore capitalism.
