Just wondering how many of you guys, and girls... must be politically correct, are superstitious... If so what are some of yours? I myself am not really superstitious... I just must play RISK with a certain set of dice. But if I don't have 'em I'll still play.

Some times I just reach out and love you guys for your simplicity.....and it's not a bad question Brad. But superstition is a part of you, and I can see how being in your society you would ask such a question.
And, My friend I'm about to break something down for you, and enlighten you!
And you don't get what I have to say then I want you to pm me so I can make it clear to you.
You are an extension of this world, just like this world is an extension of you. You think that where your arm stops the world begins, or even that you live inside your skin. But really YOU are the world. YOU ARE EVERYTHING!!!! When you breath the world breaths, and there is no true difference between the two, do you understand?
The most important thing to you believe it or not, is space, because without space you cannot be YOU!, if there were no space then the atoms and molecules inside of you would have no room to BE, and I couldn't even be talking to you. SO this little thing you are thinking about called superstition is really something calling out to you, telling you that you know more than you really think you do.

I love you man, and I want to help you, and straight up in front of everyone I'll say I'm a freak, a natural Alien --- Look at my symbol, but I'm a freak because I SEE and most people in this world are sleeping!
And I'm trying to free myself from the wheel.
IF you don't understand from here just pm me
you have heart, and I have seen it.

Hate to tell you Az, but Christianity has a lot of superstitions built in to it.

Could you give me some examples so that I know what you're talking about...

You might start with the "sacrificed hero"..which, while not exactly a superstition, is an old, old fable. Much older than Christianity iteslf.

Indeed, this is a theme that reoccurs & resonates to this day. For example the assasination of JFK & Camelot.. etc.

Well, just look at the definition of superstition from dictionary.com:
su·per·sti·tion (n.)
An irrational belief that an object, action, or circumstance not logically related to a course of events influences its outcome.

Nothing specific about Christianity (I am a devout Christian) just religion is inherently superstitious, that is it's nature. But superstition is not a bad thing, it is part of human nature, like Johan was saying.

Enlightenment is a very hard thing to handle guys -- I say this with a smile on my face, because I used to think I was one of the enlightened ones until I discovered otherwise. We all like to think we are in control of our lives, our health, our relationships, etc. In truth this is not bad, because without this belief you would wind up in your local physiotherapists office. As long as you wish to play the fool's game it's better to think you are doing fine, than driving yourself crazy.

PS
So go on thinking you are in control. this is what the majority of people do, why should you be any different? As long as you continue to justify your actions by this false reality, you will continue playing the game with yourself. This is a fool's game at best, for there is no winning, there is no peace, there is no end to the battle.

On the other hand, you can end the game, you can make the effort to break free of the illusion. The choice always has been up to you. The first step is to slow down a second and take a hard look at the source of your problems. The source is closer than you think. It is you.

Jahan my problem is that I see people for what they are. Very falable. I person can be loving, caring, and a good christian on the surface, but be part of a larger organization that cheats people out of their livelihood. It happens all the time.

Take for example the nice woman at MSN who tlod me that she would be unable to credit me for the $527 dollars they have billed me for an account I was not aware of because I didn't contact them within the first 120 days. My question to her was, of course, "how can I contact you about something I am unaware of?" She very politely thanked me for my patience and understanding and said there was no way she could assist me further.

She may be a nice person in her everyday life, but she is acting as the arm of an organization that is taking money from me for nothing.

No. Enlightenment is easy. It is about letting go.
Superstitions, as most people see them, are hard work!
Seeing the interconnectedness of things, the Web of Wyrd, is the key. And then what was once superstition is either discarded and forgotten or it is seen as part of the pattern and regarded as reality.

I have one superstition and one only. In fact I do not regard it as superstition, though others watching me may do. Every day, my wife and I make a Heathen toast to Skuld - she who sits by the World Tree at Urð's Well, weaving What Should Be from the threads already laid down. Before we make that toast, I always add new drink to my glass or horn, even if it is just a few drops.

What I meant was that as far as I'm concerned superstition can't go together with my christian faith. When I hear someone is superstitious I think of habits (like the one with the dice) he can have, he could also believe in astrology or other such things.

Az you are correct that those kinds of superstitions, dice rolling and astrology, are contrary to Christianity. But the reason they are contrary to Christianity is because they are a competing form of superstition.

See, I am a very literal minded person, that is how I am able to separate the good from the bad from the indifferent. I take things and I examine their root meaning so I can understand exactly from where they are coming from. I then make make analysis upon what it truly is, not what it is hyped up to be, or sometimes is.

Unfortunately, the past ten years have opened my eyes to a lot of what is really going on the I was oblivious to before and I wish I could have some of my niaveness back.

How does the line go, " I wish I didn't know now what I didn't know then"?

Stormerne.. that is about the most flabbergasting statement I have seen at this forum so far. I really love it ! I wish others .. to include many "Christians" had a deeper understanding of the mythos that's surrounds their beliefs & could see to the truths that often lie under the surface. Of course that statement could get you burned in effegy in certain circles, particularly in the USA.

Johann.. Buddhism is far too passive for me. I prefer to be a full partner in the dance of life. Seeking self extinguishment might be a good way to avoid the inevitable sorrows & injustices of existance.. but you also give up the joys too.
