Surprising amount of Beyond Earth DNA in Civ7

I've been revisiting Beyond Earth (CivBE) while I wait for Civ7 and I've noticed a surprising number of mechanics from Civ7 look to have been pioneered or extensively tested out in CivBE.

- Leader Attributes: CivBE has Personality Perks in 4 categories which can be leveled up during the game.
- Masteries: CivBE has Leaf Techs which are easy to see as the precursor to Masteries. Unnecessary for tech tree progression but can unlock additional bonuses and affinity points.
- Outposts: When founding a city in CivBE it first starts as an Outpost and eventually levels up to a City. These Outposts are much less fleshed out, but you can see a logical progression to Civ7's Towns.
- Quests: I know CivBE did not pioneer narrative events in the Civilization franchise, but it really did incorporate them to a far greater degree than any other iteration. There are dozens of narrative quests in the game, many of them multi-step choices that look almost exactly like the system in Civ7.
- Influence: Civ7's diplomatic system where you spend earned Influence to pay for diplomatic actions is virtually identical to CivBE's system at its core.
- Legacy Paths: There are some distinct similarities between Legacy Paths and progressing through Affinities in CivBE. This might be the most tenuous connection of those I've listed, but you unlock bonuses in a very similar fashion as you make progress.

Anyhow, I really like CivBE, but since it's not a mainline game it's interesting seeing a lot of ideas that were tested out in it making their way into the main franchise in some fashion or another.

Even though I never got around to play BE, the Leaf Techs was one of its features I always felt had great potential, so at least that is a part of the Civ7 design I approve of.

It's really interesting because not only that, but a lot of features from Civ 6, also had roots in Civ Beyond Earth.

Obviously the detail of how the economy works is much different, but the Exploration Age with its naval exploration and treasure ships also reminds me a lot of Col 4 Colonization.

They've taken a lot of inspirations from Civ 3 and 5 Scenarios as well.

It's been a while since I played BE, but I always wanted a sequel or expansion beyond RT. It's biggest issue, like HK, was it felt generic and bland. But it held a lot of potential for amazing flavor.

I dont really remember influence but this post has me wanting to go back and experience it again.

Nice observations though, I do agree with most everything. This makes me hopeful that if civ 7 is successful that we may get a good BE2 down the road at some time.
