I have played 3 full games of FfH2 (currently on the 3rd one now), and in every one of those games, Svartalfar has been one of the AI civs. Now they are currently listed as unplayable and the wiki says "minor civilization". The strange thing about this is in every one of these games, Faeryl Viconia has been a force to be reckonned with. She only has 1 working trait, and the working trait is IMHO, one that an AI is completely incapable of utilizing. This civ is also missing a couple of units and cannot build an alchemy lab.

This leads me to 2 questions.

1) Is there any reason why a nerfed civ seems to play better by the AI in every one of my games thus far?

2) Is this civ going to eventually be made playable (I really want to play an evil elf civ)?

My guess is that since the Svartalfar are "simpler" then most other AI civs the AI is doing better with them because the AI likes simple.

The Svartalfar are planed to be made playable in shadow.

If you want to play them now Sureshot has a Svartalfar mod mod.

It also may be that the AI weights given to Faeryl Viconia just happen to be particularly favourable (when compared to other FFH civs).

Or that the AI are also underestimating her as a "minor civ" and giving her more room to breathe...

Take a good look at the Svartalfar palace. It gives mind mana (+research) and enchantment mana (+happiness) and makes recon units start off with 4 extra experience points (more huts). Those are all things that the AI should certainly know enough about to use correctly. They also start with agriculture which is probably a terrific tech to start off with as the AI if set at a level where the AI starts with a free worker.
