All three a tied up in a nice, neat, little package. They hate our freedom, they speak about the decedance in our culture with more contenmpt than our military or economy. The type of theocracy they support is more of an antithesis to our personal freedom than our economy or military status.
Not withstanding, it is ignorant to believe any compromise could be drawn in terms of their 'grievances'. They live to destroy; removing targets won't change that.
Ah, but they take out political targets like embassies, military like the ship in the Persian Gulf, military like the Pentagon, and the symbol of global economic power like the World Trade Center, then targeting the White House with the plane that went down. I'm not disagreeing totally with "they hate our freedoms", but I suspect one of the purposes was to cause so much fear that we would start willingly giving up our freedoms. If we do this, he gets a partial victory. The other goal was to get us to remove our bases in Saudi Arabia. I guess he figured that if he took out such symbols of military and economic power that the nation would collapse under the weight of its cultural decadence. I guess he believes his own propaganda. It reminds me of the "We will bury you" rhetoric of the early 1960s except with an atrocitic twist.
Early tapes showed that even if we allied with Arafat and stopped our support of Israel he still would continue to attack the US. There is no appeasing him or his faction. Perhaps if captured he should be punished according to Islamic Law -- public stoning -- in NYC.
I'll tell you this, Bin Laden must not have studied his history. His goals will not be realized. The nation is as unified as it was in December 1941.
