I hate when other civs can come in and steal your workers! Anyway to make it so workers can not be enslaved? I was thinking about giving the workers a lot of hp should they can't be taken. any ideals on what to do?

Umm... why shouldn't workers be captured? You can give them 99 defense, but I don't see why you want to do this.

How about guarding them? Put workers in stacks and 3-4 infantry units and the AI will leave them alone.

On the other hand I love to leave a worker out so the AI will go straight for it. Once killed about 40 units trying to get to my worker.

That would make no sense, to have workers be able to defend themselves. When's the last time in history a bunch of guys with shovels and picks beat an organized military force? That would be equivalent to a fighter getting killed by a spearman (which happened in Civ2) :)

Cause you have to build more workers and that takes away from your cities. I just hate it. While my people could be building Armed forces or buldings, i have to make more workes. They don't need to fight back or anything that just should be able to go around doing thier job without me haveing to pull them into my cites everytime i go to war.

Umm... no it doesn't? Worker repay themselves in a very short amount of time, and are the most effective unit...

IIRC, having a defensive value makes it so you can't capture them. Although it's been a while since I've done anything like that.

so i can give the a defensive vaule so they won't be captured. Good i was wondering if a i could do that. I

It is really not that hard to take just a bit of care with them so they are not put in harms way. At least not with out escorts. Are they automated? That is a good way to get them in trouble.

Yeah i got them automated. Will they retreat into a city that way? Aslo giving them HP works but not when trying to take a city awya from a nother civ.

Ignoring the issues of wasted worker turns if automated, you have the fact that the game will send them to work tiles were they will be exposed. Yes they will retreat, if they have enough notice that trouble is coming, but that is not always the case.

Now you may make a mistake or even intentionally put them in a precareous spot, but hopefully you knew you were taking a chance.

Yeah an uncapturable work in a city means you cannot take the city.

If you give them a defence value ... the worker will not be captured it will be killed ...

I can't see the problem though ... you can capture other workers or recapture them ... it all adds to the game ...

Why not delete the worker all together from the game and then give all units the ability to build roads, mines, etc

For me this will ruin the game

This works both ways too; you can also capture your enemies worker's. Imagine if they all had one defence point; you'd have a hell of a time attacking a city which has tons of workers in it. The AI tends to have a lot of workers in core cities when you attack. On the other hand, you as the human should know how to take better care of your own workers than the AI.

You probably should just learn how to take care of your workers.

Also, automating as I recall only works a tile with two workers at a time. So if you have a bunch of workers in a city area trying to improve it quickly, the AI won't have the workers work in efficient gangs. You'll get two workers doing a three worker/turn job, or running around without making sure the tile they're leaving has a road on it, taking up extra turns.

See highlighted part, above. That's precisely the reason why the AI goes straight for your workers: cuz it drives you crazy!!!

(Tell me you wouldn't intentionally try to drive your enemy crazy if you were President of a country at war against some other nation??) :king:

I really don't see what's so hard about guarding your workers with an escort. I learned this the hard way the first time I played with raging barbarians. You should try it too.
