taltho's Globe World

Did you play taltho's globe world II?
If so what did you think?
Was it fun, how was the game play?
did the game play concept of wrap-around and player one start location add any intruge?
how did it effect your game play?
how did it effect your psycology?
how did it effect your funtionality ratio's?
what did you think of the polar-region(tundra)?
what set of rules did you fallow in game play?
what civ did you use?
how har was it to conqure, or somthing worse fail?
how many civs where in your game?
what did you think of civ inneraction?
did you use a trading or diplomatic game or a warfare and domination game?
and what did you think of the signature?
and yes I should have named it doughnut world, but you know what? taltho's Globe world sounds sooo much better, Don't you think?

Taltho, yes I tried it, and enjoyed it. It was very nicely done, very pretty, and very nicely distributed terrain. The computer players didn;t seem to be much on expanding onto the other isle's though, so it made a true defending the realm, conquering other's, type of play rather difficult. I don't know if a proscription for all the civs to build lots of boats would work, as the computer has always had a difficulty doing this.

Owain:
try setting perammiters, use ocean squares as impassable terrain
try passing sea square's as ocean and. expand cost squars
messure the distance between the four cornners and the next continet , the four corners are the south pole south america to africa, china/ japan to californa and the wes coast.
you can use quite the same distance as on a real globe actualy that's what I did.
now all you have to do is make sure of the land mass acuracy (terrain), and your land mass to watter ratio, I would go large on the land for more playing room
Noth america is too small
east russia is curved in too much, also is europe. the entire continent needs to be flatter.
africa is looking a little large headed
australia and africa need to be at the top and bottom left africa being the top.
south america should be at the top right corner.Your earth is alittle scrunghed up things are loking alttle tight, also try what I sugested earlyer in this thred, witch is offset your tiles top to bodom/ left to right like 160x240 experament alittle!:)
THIS GAME NEEDS AN IMPASSABLE TERRAIN!

Hiya Taltho... I agree that this first map is pretty poor. I did redo my idea and posted it awhile ago though, but I never got around to placing resources. I actually have a playable version though which I will put up when I get home this evening (currently at work). I based my map on a projection.

Unfortunately, it just doesn't work with x/y-wrapping turned on. In fact, if you made an earth map that did work with x/y-wreapping it would look too bizarre to recognize as the earth. :)

This is something it took me some time to understand. My solution is to make the entire outer-edge of my map zero-movement cost. I haven't really been playing much civ lately or doing much modding/map making.

You will notice that this map has some pretty severe distortions. Landmasses near the poles are quite small and near the equator way too large. Luckily the areas that are too large tend to be either desert or jungle though. :D

pboily: I dont think one would get a klein bottle.
I think one would get on the inside of the tours, and how dose one know that the wrapping is not reverse?
how dose any one know wather or not the wraping is in or out?
I dont, I only assume, and asumtion is the mother of all fu *& k up's.

I will start using this fourm as discution for x/y wrapping possibility's in civ map making with taltho's globe world II as example of this.
I would also ask if any-one could post a screen shot of taltho's Globe World II and a down load for all to see and better know what this is all about thank's in advance. my computer keeps failing me and I can't aford a new one yet, next month I will be able to and will be able to do more I hope with the help of chizzy I will achive the earth map download sooner. I'm working on sending him that to use for his wwII scenario. I fear I lost a lot of the work I put into this map the last time my computer crashed, so I'm hoping for the best.
sorry if these messages are vauge and bland I don't have alot of time to put into them now I'm verry buisy working. I hav'nt had much time the last few months since my brother died. but I'm glad some peopple are interested in x/y wraping game-play I have other maps that are verry differant from globe word (sphears on a tours).:)

Finally found where the link was to redownload this map. Sorry it took so long. Hope the pictures looks good.

Ok, the jpg looked good, but then I made the one above. Jpg was to large of a file sive so I giffed it. I forgot to update the title, which is a shame, cause it would have been an even better pun.
Anyway enjoy your holiday Giff!

Hey, i tried the map and it was pretty good! But whats with all the game on the north/south poll? i would think it would be better as more of a cold wasteland then a bunch of AI cities that are hard to get to. (which slowed down my conquest of the world.

Did you play the map as x and y wrapped? There are no poles that way. Everything is an equal distance from everything else. It's like playing with 4 continents of equal size and distance.
