I started this game few weeks ago, but was too busy to bother even posting on the forum. Though since I have my 3’rd continue on Monday evening, I guess late is better than never. We still have a ways to go yet.

Team #1
Rammy – Obsolete
Ghandi – Snaaty
Perc – Zulan

Team #2

I ended up in what looked to be a very small area. Almost no room to expand. Then, a couple turns later and our fears were realized, I had absolutely NO room to expand. Well, that could be killer in some games, but since I have my industrious trait to fall back on, I wasn’t too worried.

It should be noted, that Snaaty (to my West) ended up getting me a second settler out soon, to fill in that stone resource between us. Since I was industrious, it was much better that I end up getting that stone ASAP and put it to great use to make up for such a poor land deficit.

Block City:

After a few turns of scouting around it became evident the AI’s were not so close to us and hence we were able to take many liberties. At first we thought we may be isolated on our own continent but this was not the case. Far to the West-South there was a mountain blocking our 1-tile crossing to another large patch of land. And to the East-South there was a 1-tile connection to more land... which sadly turned out to be connected to Monte’s super aggressive team. Grrrrr.
I then begged my team-mates to sacrifice a few more things in order to rush off a blocking city, so we could set up a fort later in the forest to protect from Monte’s future invasions. And here it is, after that poor bowman had to fight off a ton of other barbs, and almost cost us that precious city. In fact, I was so worried while watching the battles, that I removed a forested hill which I only wanted to pre-mine, and lost my trees there, #@%!%^!#$^$.

I’ll post more details soon...

Alright, since we have our continue later on today, time to post the current status.

We have 4 turns left till paper, the problem is we don’t have longbows yet, and Monte which was recently at war just made peace. This means he may turn around and attack us now. And to make things worse, Snaaty got some great idea to run a different religion from everyone else, and it is somewhat killing us now. We got so many people upset at us, so it’s just a matter of time.

It seems Snaaty just gifted Philo to Monte, but I think that only did more harm than good. It in no way makes up for the hatred they have on us for religion, and only makes the OTHER team dislike us even more. Arggghh#%@#%@%#%. The last thing I want is to be gifting precious techs to these other teams. Anyhow, needless to say, I think Zulan better start getting nothing but archers pumping out FAST, as soon as he completes his courthouse in our blocker city.

That said, I will try to finish our Wat, and then the UoS. As you can see, my capital has quite a lot of prizes in it by now. And my only other city at least has the lighthouse.

Ohh, and for a side-note: we razzed a barb city, though I was not too happy about it, because I felt that city was in a perfect location and ready for us to have running (it even had cotts up). But oh well...

Nice game, Zulan has grabbed quite a bit of land. Nice capital as well too much water unfortunately.
Which ai(s) are bordering you and can you give an overview of the tech situation? Teamplay on deity is bound to be difficult i think.

The Cyr-Aug-Sul team is to the West of us, seperated by a 1 water tile between our continents it seems.

Mon-Sal-Lou's team seems to be on our continent, to the East.

The current tech situation after gifting away philo is this:

You seem to be teching well. Are relations so bad that no one will trade with you? I can't imagine you have reached wfybta with everyone. If it stays this way this game will become extremely difficult it seems.

We were finally able to trade for engineering to Augustus, but they refuse to open borders with us still. Anyhow, eventually Monte backstabbed us. For some reason, the only person who sent units after us was Louis.

But instead of attacking our fort, he only sent a trickle of units there, while stockpile more and more.. and more units into one of his close cities, but not doing anything with it.

You can see in the shot, that's all he did was stockpile.... and so we kept stockpiling our own fort. Eventually that stack of his grew much larger, and was loaded with Cuirasissers and grenadiers. We were able to finally obliterate it in the open field, but it cost us so much that I don't think we have enough units (at least not in health) to do any city-taking now, especially since we have no Medic III in place. So even if Monte doesn't send his own SoD with another 60 units, we still have some issues to contend with.

I just don't know what's going on with the AI here, Aug. has been in weehorn for over 1000 years now and still no attack? Must be yet another bug.

Being as our next continue is Monday, I have a few more days to formulate a plan to do with the Eastern Front. Things are looking really bad on the demographics, so bad I don't even dare post the statistics right now (haha). Here is an up to date shot of how the front looks right after crushing the mega SoD from Louis.

Eastern Front:
Spoiler :
f_hmq5dm_90186b1.jpg

Our units are so beat-up, that we can't push anywhere now. And there is no real medic anywhere in sight. And I fear, the AI will reinforce his Forbidden Palace city next turn with Grens and a few other units. And right now it will take ages to bombard down, not to mention that the AI is getting such a big discount on units right now it's so hard to compete.

I wonder... it may be best to try to sue for peace now... then spend the next 10 turns adding re-inforcements. We also have some experienced elephants and cuirasissers to upgrade, not to mention a lot of longbows to rifles. It may be well worth it, including the whipping of some spies to drop a wall here and there.

Despite crushign Louis' stack, he still thinks he's wining the war by a great margin. This is definitely not good....

Stupid question: what is this thread doing here? It's in no way a succession game, however interesting it could be.

Stupid answere: I wasn't sure where to log this, but would think it was in many ways a succession game.

Anyhow, after today's continue, things went better than I was expecting (I think!).

We were able to raze one of Louis' cities, and then capture 3 others. Unfortunately Monte finally showed up with 2 SoDs just now, and has over 100 units combined in them. And I fear, Saladin has his own SoD's very close too, since some of his units showed up last turn. Grrrr.

And despite crushing another SoD from Louis just now... it looks like we can't push on anymore. We are simply going to get over-whealmed by deity attrition here. It's just not fair damnit!!

Thus, we decided to call it a break at this point, while we re-plan and reschedule for either 1 or 2 weeks time from now. I'll have to re-read this post then just to remember what I was planning.

For now... we can make peace to Monte's team for about 10 gold, which is a damn good bargain now, as the AI is just too stupid and their victory was in sight if they could just push on now. They wanted education from us, but unfortunately between this turn and last turn, they STOLE it from us with a spy. Well, better education than Rifling (idiots).

We did a few tech deals with Augustus, and so now their team is just racing ahead in techs on us, but there is nothing we can really do about it, but try to handle it later. My worry now, is how the hell do we amass a force strong enough to handle the SoD's in 10 turns from now when we Re-DoW again. As you can see from the power rating graph, Monte alone has a SoD that my own entire team can't even match it.

This leads me to the next decision... do I try to whip/build as many units as I can in the next 10 turns, or do I try to get a small navy out to bombard the northern shores and use for a bit of scouting. I really would want that navy, but I guess we can't waste hammers on it now when we need so much land-power. Grrrrr.

Anyhow... seems the team decided that Loui's cities will be gifted to me, and I'll have to build my capital down there and start gobbling up a big empire. I'm just not really sure right now if I should move my capital down there asap, or just get a forbidden palace out there (after my 6'th city), since my two northern cities are just too well set-up for pumping out military units right now. And we definitely need those ASAP, and for many turns still.

Impressive :goodjob:, can't see everything from the screenshots of course but you have a decent chance of winning this one it seems.

Decent chance of winning perhaps, but it is very easy to make a mistake here. I have been doing some thinking, and then more thinking on this game despite we won't continue for a while. I think as of now... it is best I go navy, and then bombard a few city walls down with it. This will leave less losses for our blitzing cavalry, which means we can come to peace terms quicker during emergency.

Louis has a RTT of 6. So if things go really well, we should be able to make peace in 2 turns after we DoW. If worst comes to worse, we just have to wait 6 turns, which I think technically means the 7'th turn. I have a few different plans I drafted up, and maybe I"ll post them later for some analysis.

I don't see us ever being able to Match their total strength in the next 10 turns, or even a little after. We'll have to do some careful engineering and try to swiftly take their territory peace-meal while getting peace-breaks along the way. Or.... we could get lucky and FINALLY see Augustus put his Weehorn to good use and FINALLY attack Monte for us.

It's a bit messy. (Ignore Zulan's blue markers).

Battle Plan

This is also highly optimistic. But it should work until Monte re-enters the picture again.

Personally (And I've never beaten deity, not once) I'd give serious consideration to making the attack on France a feint (enough force to take and keep one city, but no more), and setting up along Monty's supply lines with cannons(tons), rifles and cavalry, ready to spring an ambush on the SoD. As long as he's cruising around with those stacks, victory will be in doubt.

Trying to set up an ambush in Monte's lines looks like a recepie for disaster here I fear. His mounted units move 5 tiles at once in his territories, while our cannons/inf can only move 1. We wouldn't even be able to get the first hit in.

Another problem, is my team wants to hit in 10 turns from now (I don't blame them), but this won't give us that many cannons.

There is a small possibility I could get some galleons and land a small force next to his capital or shrine city and take that if we could keep an eye on where the SoD is at all given times. Of course, Saladin's SoD adds a whole other problem to worry about too. To be honest, I'm not sure how the current AI will behave. Will it re-double back to the capital once I land a stack there to take it, or will it just get confused as always and act stupid.

Right now we're teching on our way to get the Wallstreet (snaaty wants it) for our shrine city. After that I figure we should go for Infantry. However, we're starting to slow down here so that's quite a far ways off. As much as this cavalry push is starting to look harder, I think we should just bear it out and continue piece-meal. It may be very useful here to keep Luis alive down to his last city just so we have an option to make peace again every few turns to save us from Monte's SoD.

I'm also confused why Monte's power-graph suddenly haulted a few turns, despite he has lots of gold on hand. Surely he should keep building units until the sky is reached during a war? Maybe there is some sort of hidden cap around in this patch.

Thought I'd take a closer peek into Snaaty's Capital.

As you can see, he also went down the SSE route. And his capital is basically what is pulling the rest of us along here. The 12 scientists alone are giving 108 beakers and 12 hammers. And this is before modifiers kick in. Next turn his observatory goes on-line.

On the production line, you can see he's qued up a small army (sneaky bastard trying to avoid maintenance!)

Time to update my diary log. Been a very long time since we last left off, but finally got in a continue this evening.

To sum things up, I decided to abandon the naval issue and cranked out more units. We also built a ton of trebs, then upgraded to cannons and hit after our peace deal ran out. We had so many units, paying so much in maintenance, that we couldn't stall anyhow, and STILL Monte along had us crushed in power, he had that much of an SoD.

And it wasn't that we didn't have monster SoD's ourself either. Anyhow, here is a shot right after the last bloodbath confrontation. We finally clashed with Monte, and despite he got the FIRST wave on us, we were able to live through it and finish HIM off on our wave thereafter. In this shot our SoD is actually broken in half. One just outside the target city, and another half is inside the target city. Still, you can see how many units we have left that survived. Without a doubt, deity-teams make the biggest SoD battles yet. I was starting to worry the game would crash for a while there.

Anyhow... now it's time to keep pushing until Saladin marches over his 500-cavalry stack, or whatever count it is at by now.

Next log entry...

Monday's continue went alright (I think!?)

We had one not-so great moment when Saladin showed up with a SoD and hit us just when our big stacks were SPLIT. Very bad timing, and we got a lot of extra losses that shouldn't have happened. However, we did succeed in eventually nailing that other stack after it had retreated to heal in Louis capital. We took that capital and some other cities, including the Orleans shrine city. However, just before then we noticed, somehow Monte already rebuilt a huge force in just a few turns!!!

We tried to trick him into moving into a weak city so we could smash it with cannons, but he didn't fall for it. This is not the first time they haven't co-operated by not attacking almost empty border cities, I wonder if it's a bug or if the AI was really tweaked to be smarter?

Anyhow, I fear we have no plan now except to sue for peace once again (we'll get a bunch of gold from Louis). We'll then get a bit more happy and crank up the slider to get our MGs online pretty soon with a railroad network.

I guess the next move after that will be another DoW, and then slaughter Monte with our MGs when he suicides into our shrine city. It is making almost 40g a turn, so I can't wait for it to go online. It may not have made too big a dent in their team, but it sure as hell helps us humans who are on the other side of the bonus cheats.

We`ve had a couple more sessions since then, so time to log to myself another update.

Louis is dead, and Monte is crippled (well, just a little bit). This is two wars later and I THINK we are done warring, but we will see if Monte backstabs us AGAIN as soon as our current peace deal is finished. Aug`s team is still stuck in some perpetual weehorn bug, but they are just spiraling out of control up the tech line. Cyrus already built the Apollo and they are going to launch no doubt fairly soon.

So... we are going to go after fission soon and try to do something creative with nukes. It seems, if we can get some Nav II transports, we can actually DoW the turn they launch, capture a city, then pass our navy through that city in order to reach Cyrus`capital, and THEN we can land in it. Well... the next question is.... what happens after that. And that`s a good question.

Current Tech Sit.
