Bremp has just pointed-out a bug in tech costs for this game. Basically, tech costs seem to be inflated by a factor of about 2. :(

As yet, I have no idea what has caused this bug (I can't reproduce it in a 'new' game), but it does affect all three GOTM classes. Its not great, but you're all on a level-playing field.

If anyone has encountered this bug before, please let me know any info that you have. I want to ensure that this does not happen in future games....

Edit: It appears that it might be related to the way the map was generated in a scenario with custom rules. The tech costs in this game appear to be those of a 'huge' map, even though we are playing standard. (Thanks, Alexman). :)

Does this `huge' map setting also affect how many cities we need in order to build the Forbidden Palace? I now have ten cities, but can't start the Forbidden Palace yet (I'm worried because my Palace prebuild for it is about to exceed 200 shields).

I'm well over the ten city mark, and yet I still can't build the forbidden palace. Maybe the huge map-thing is applying to the FP as well as tech cost?

I guess im going to have to use that prebuild on the oracle or something :(

edit: I'm at 16 cities now, and still no FP, so I don't know how you built it with 10.

I'm playing Open. I just got 18 cities, and I can now build the forbidden palace. (It came too late for the prebuild, though. :( )

I had the same thing with the forbidden palace, still not allowed yet at 12 cities (Predator). At least I now know I'll need another 6 towns and can make plans accordingly. My timing for the prebuild for the FP is off, but I was beginning to wonder if I could ever build it.

I take it the problem is that the game thinks we are playing on a huge map.

Well this adds an interesting twist. It seems harmless enough since we're all on the same footing. We'll just have to think of it as a huge map which doesn't have a lot of land :)

I guess we won't get the best picture of the Jason score tuning this month. I think the best dates for space and diplomatic will be pushed back a bit by the huge map setting.

I'm just finishing off the C3C Jason code, hence the slight delay in publishing the submission page, and I'm adjusting the factors for this month to use the huge offsets. It uses the actual map to determine highest score, so I'm hoping the Jason system should remain as valid as ever.

Boy, this is going to make for some really slow diplo and space games. I wonder how long it will take the AIs to get out of the ancient age given that they will not be able research at over the 50 turn min. for a loooong time.
Also best dates for dom. and conquest may have to be brought forward as well, given the UU will be effective for that much longer.
