Is there any information on the relative tech cost for each era around here?
I have a decent understanding - but I have never seen numerical values.

Links or articles :scan:

Not sure what you want to know, but the editor will tell you the cost for each tech and the cost factor for each level.

The formula is rather long and can be found on the board I am sure. Many app are around that you can see the breakers for them as well, go to the util forum.

I want to know the relative cost - e.g. Republic is more expensive than Ceremonial Burial. But by how much? I guess that I am looking for the beakers, yes. I'll check the util forum. Meanwhile feel free to link anyone :D

Just open the editor and select custon rules. The edit rules. The World size yields the cost for the map size. The diff level tabs show the cost for the levels. Civil advances show the cost for each tech.

CB is 2
Rep is 28

use the forumla to get the beakers.

Research Cost = [MM * [10*COST * (1 - N/[CL*1.75])]/(CF * 10)] - Research done so far

The above is the forumla last I knew.

So for sid CB is 120 on std map and Rep is 1680.

The actual research cost will be affected also by the ratio between the number of civs you have contact with that already know the tech and the number of civs remaining in the game. So even though Republic is 14 times as expensive as CB, if when you research CB you don't know any civs and there are 16 civs left in the game and by the time you get around to researching Republic you know all 15 other civs and all of them already know Republic then Republic would be less than 14 times as expensive as CB. It could also happen the reverse way :)

I looked at the link and it looks like it is all included :)

Excellent :D

I was just looking for this information myself ... as I'm trying to work out what the gold value is for virtually anything tradeable

Thanks Guyz :goodjob:

I was also looking for something on this. It often confuses me when I want to trade for a single tech and the AI wants 2 of mine plus 500 gold. I have no idea if their offer is fair.

I did not want to clutter it with all the data, but here it is:

Square brackets indicate truncation /rounddown

MM = map modifier(tech rate on world sizes tab in the editor)
Tiny 160
Small 200
Standard 240
Large 320
Huge 400

CF = AI cost factor(as on the difficulty tab in the editor)
For the purposes of the research cost formula, CF has a maximum value of 10.
Chieftain 20
Warlord 12
Regent 10
Monarch 9
Emperor 8
Deity 6
Sid 4

COST = technology cost as on the civilization advances tab in the editor.

N = number of civs on the diplomacy screen that have discovered the tech.

CL = number of civs left in the game

There is only one part of the formula that varies during the game: (1 - N/[CL*1.75]). There are two ways in which you can increase it to lower tech cost:
1. Increase N by exploring and buying comms to add civs to your diplomacy screen.
2. Decrease CL by killing civs.

NB. This formula is relevant for research cost of the AI civs, not just the human player. If you are interested in the research cost of a specific technology for a specific AI civ, N refers to the number of civs on that specific AI civ's diplomacy screen that have discovered that specific tech. In general, there are two ways in which you can increase AI tech cost:
3. Keep N low by not selling comms to AI civs.
4. Keep CL high by not killing civs.
And technically...
5. Keep N low by not getting techs yourself.

Obviously points 2. and 4. are contradictory so choose whichever fits your playing style. Personally I choose point

The impact of civs that have the tech is not that great and can be ignored for the simple comparison I had post of CB vs Rep. But yes it will alter the total beaker counts. I wrote an excel spread sheet for this once, it allowed me to keep a running count of beakers. this was mainly for PBEM games, I have not used it in along time, but it can be very important to know at times.
