Tech Costs?

Regarding to the beta2 version:

Whose costs are variable?

Does the tech price the KI has to pay change with the level, or does the price the human player has to pay change?

The human player's cost is set, does not change with difficulty level. It is the AI's tech cost that changes depending on the difficulty level.

So it is in the origin version. Are you sure that this is not changed with beta2. I'm in doubt about that, therefore I asked above about that point.

Which original version 1.29b1 or 1.16f that Civ3 was released at? Before 1.29f (b1 and b2 for mac users), it was the human player who's tech costs changed with difficulty levels. I'm "almost" willing to stake your life on it. ;)
 
Current version it is definitely the AI cost that varies and the human cost that is fixed. I know the tech cost factors changed at 1.29 - it was one of the significant game rules changes - but I've no idea how it was implemented in the earlier versions.
 
I should clarify: When I refer to "current version" I mean version 1.29b2. As far as I am concerned 1.21g and earlier are all ancient history.

Note that "Fixed" is not strictly true even for version 1.29. Tech costs *do* vary for all the players, depending on map size, and on how many known players have researched the tech.
 
Jep, that is understood.

I'm talking about the table, in which Tech Costs are related to the difficult level.
We all know that on higher levels the tech costs are more expensive.
How is this handled in the game: Has the human player to pay more for it, and the prize is not changing for the AI, or is the prize for the human player still the same and the AI has to pay less?
 
That was what I (and Dojoboy) meant when we said that the human cost is fixed and the AI cost reduces at higher difficulty levels. It's similar with building costs. At higher levels the AI can build improvements and wonders for fewer shields than the human can.

Well, so I had understood it right :D
We just had this discussion in the german webring forum and some arguments of others had lead me into doubts about this.
