In the early game I usually go for a tech that the AI's never research and trade that tech for as many other techs as possible. Toward the end of the game, im
lucky If I can find another civ that has a tech I want, and needs the tech I have to trade. I usually avoid trading it to that civ because the beaker ratio
is way out of whack. I just cant bring myself to trade a 4000 beaker tech for a 1500 beaker tech. I usually play at Prince level and im lucky to get a space race
victory by 2000. So I was wondering if im gimping myself by not trading techs
every chance I get. Also, If I have a tech that other civ's need, should I sell it
to all of them for whatever cash they happened to have? like 400g for navigation? How do the people that can pull of space race victories in the 1800s handle tech trading?

Why trade when you can steal? Build the great wall early as is possible, then use the great spies you get to infiltrate the most advanced civs for the time. after that just send regular spies into their cities and steal any tech you want from them without giving them anything at all in return...

I have worked this up to noble and it works fine so far but I have not tried it on prince or higher.

Better to settle your first Great Spy to get you started accumulating EP points against everyone, IMHO.

That's what the slider and buildings that acquire EP's are for. Sumerians build Ziggurats after priesthood so you are not waiting for the courthouses after Code of Laws. The first GS can be better suited to getting ahead in techs (when used on the most advanced Civ in the game that you have met)then no one can touch your civ as you are to advanced technologially.

I have used this and been able to get to infantry before the other civs have even acquired gunpowder. Total Domination or Conquest win by 1600-1700.

Defo better to infiltrate 1st grtspy in an enemy city as even on prince you can usually steal 3 or even 4 techs right up to monarchy and currency even with the slider at 10%.

Settling Grt spy really only gives you a small amount of points that early in the game and this IMO, and in another thread, is no where near the advantage of 3-4 or who knows more early techs.
