Term 2 - Secretary of War

OK, OK I appreciate the humor Swiss.e but let's keep this thread clean for military discussions and questions only.

Major General Idiot Whomp...

I think we might need that spear in our coming war or defense from Mongolia/Germany. You might consider requesting his completion, one of our rivals WILL have horses.

OK I will have the next turnplayer shift the build to a spearman in our new copper city.

FYI.... I'm not sure that you can directly influence the build queues. I think that you have to get the governor/mayor of that city to assign the new build.

I posted this in the screenshots thread. thought it might make sense to someone over here
Also in this latest turn chat, we had 3 different barbs pop there heads out of the shadows.

The Green lin indicates the first barb. Then the light blue barb showed up a couple turns later. On the same turn the green and blue barbs disappeared into the shadows. One or two turns later, the orange barb popped out. So if you look at where the other two barbs went into the shadows, you can see that there is a high likelyhood that we are dealing with at least 3 barbs

Here is a diagram:

 And to think they wanted open borders with us!

I'm wondering if they are planning a settlement on or near the pigs. From my experience the barbs like to settle resources.

Let's get that axe online and go on a promotion spree.

It would be nice if we could get a barb city out of the shadows. With axes, I think that we could capture it and have to build one less settler (= 2 axes).

Yeah I think we let the shadows stay and hope for a good city location from the barbs. I

Tubby...no chance that the first barb you saw doubled back into that shadow square that juts out due west of BW. Having that many barbs come in 10 turns from the same square seems unlikely, not saying its impossible but seems a little odd.

Also do you remember how many axes( or other units) were in Hamburg and Berlin. And did you see any other units wondering around.

One thing we didnt think about last night was to send the 2nd warrior from horse city north to guard the worker.

Robboo, I thought the same about the barbs ... so I went again through the turnchat ... and yes ... they should be just 2.
I'm too lazy to do the map, so I'll just make the reconstruction in words.
The 1st barb popped where he is now on the posted picture = 4W - SW of BoW. Then moved N, then moved and the next turn disappeared. So if the desriptions from Tubby were correct and we have a look on a map there is only one solution: Popped, moved N, moved N, moved SW into shadow and then popped again as "barb3". That would mean that there is no barb on pigs!

As we have probably only 2 barbs, and the axe in BoW will be completed soon, I'd suggest to postpone the axe production in city#3 and buil barracks first as barracks give big advantage (just 1 experience point from some barb combat and we have 2 promotions ... if we get "city raiders" then it's +45%!!!)
What do you thing about that?

Hamburg was defended by 2 archers and an axeman.

I could have sworn that the barb continued north... I 'll go through the turnchat tomorrow when I get the chance and contemplate the movements. But likely Pajka is correct as my memory is going in my old age (not as old as Whomp though)

I would like to point out two things. The Germans supposedly have a third city called Munchen or Munich. My spies haven't been able to locate it yet, nor can they figure out why it's called two different names.

Secondly, I made overtones to agents of Peter about a possible conflict against the Mongolians. They seemed to think the idea had merit, but didn't think we had anything of value to give them for their troubles. (translation: The option is white in the Diplo screen, but when I asked what he wanted he said it wasn't possible.) Maybe if someone was a little more strong armed and demanded he go to war, he might do it. I didn't want to lose my contacts by doing that.

Why would we want Peter in on this war? I think that we might want his help against a future battle with Germany, but this one against the Mogol Horde should be easy enough for use to do by ourselves.

Well lets think of it like this..Peter is itching for a fight. After we declare, it will be over and done with before he could move his troops up . BUT it will cause him to switch to military buildup which could either be useful against Germany, move himout of settler and improvement building (or he could turn on us).

It would help solidify his help for our future war by giving the +whatever "you went to war with us against our enemy"

The borders of Mongolia nad Russia might have met each other already ...
In fact it would be very interesting to know who won the race for the second horses (those between the two) !!

Let's focus on one thing at a time. Our first priority is the buildup of axes. Take them to the hills of Timbuktu and conquer. If the Russians beat the Mongols to the horses, all the better. If Peter wants in on the fight it will be on our terms not his.

We can develop plans for the other two later. In the meantime, let's stay cordial with them. As the saying goes "Keep your friends close and enemies closer". ;)

Robboo, as you haven't started yet your thread for 3rd term, I'll write here, hope you won't mind.
I'd like to take into question the promotions of our newly built units. I've noticed that the 2 new axemen got "Combat 1" pomotion both. I think that it might be better to give to the future axemen "City raider 1" promotion. But even better would be to save the promotions for later as they can be used also for quick healing of the units, not mentioning that during the fight we could chose promotions which would suite us the best depending on our opponent's forces.
What do you and the others think about it?

I will quote your post into my thread..then answer.

:D
