Ok lots of questions people, well heres some answers for the first 3. i will answer the others soon.

1.Why has none of you asked for nationalism and espionage in order to make the FA job more meaningful and result oriented. Here I consider MPPs from nationalism and Espionage options as key.

Well I haven’t really lobbied for any diplomatic technologies as this was the Foreign ministers job and I was not a member of the foreign ministry (I tried to join but I never got a answer). But I think both of these techs are valuable and we should go after them. Mutual protection pacts and trade embargos are very useful tools. And Espionage is a must.

2. Why have none of you advocated for which nations to make as close allies on our continent, and pre-empt war, and why did not you address the MPP offer that came from the Zulus.

I was not the foreign minister this was not my job (it was Donovan Zoi and after he walked out Civgeneral) But I have already advocated in the aid and right of passage threads, that we should work on making a group of friends. I would like nations who we have not gone to war with e.g. France, Russia and America. I can see benefits of MMP with these nations, but I think that is up to the people. I also believe we should give gifts and sign right of passage agreements with most nations of the world to make them polite especially the nations on our continent. If we make friends with our continent they might stop attacking us. If we make the world polite they will not attack us. There for we will not need to pre-empt war.

3. Do you agree to poll the offered peace agreement against the next doctrinal expansion of the war, for example Mpondo and Isandhlwana against your offer?

IF there is war if Zulus, I will not likely take office until one turnchat into the game. So I might not get to make this decision. As far as war is concerned I will poll the people, asking when they want to make peace. But as for what cities to attack, this is up the military department. I will try to not get entangled with the fighting of the war, just signing of the peace. What I mean is it is FA's responsibility to stop wars coming, once the war starts it is FA's responsibility to conclude it. The actually fighting of the war is up to the military department. I am willing to post peace plans against military plans if need for example: When should we make peace with Zuliquiros (fictions nation)? Now, After City A falls, After City A B and C fall, No peace destroy them, Other, Abstain.

My vote definetly goes to Donovan Zoi

WHY? he hasnt campainged at all, he didnt last time he got elected for this posistion. Then he quit it stright away!!
...............................................................................
iam fairly new to this game, its only my second election i was wondering if people could tell me why they voted against me. Is it just that you vote based on Post numbers or is there another reason?

I agree with Nobody. DZ has shown absolutely no prowess and interest in campaigning for this position and his poor record in the past could be a precursur to things to come.

DZ seems to be more interested in fancy one liners and playboy antics than running a full campaign and honestly searching for answers to some very difficult questions.

I personally talked with Nobody and Moss convinced me, I wonder a bit, as Donovon made a very good impression to me, but I think: Let's give Nobody a chance to do things better!

Another question for the candidates. One issue I've seen with all of the existing FA ministries is that there has been no proactive determination for events such as other countries asking for treaties (ROP, MPP, embargoes).

6. What procedures and/or policies would you put in place so that we could respond to foreign nation requests while taking into account the WOTP?

im sorry, i forgot it wasnt my decision who to vote for ;)

Sorry, DZ. I voted for Nobody. :D

You bailed last Term and that says a lot, although you may have been doing it for CG, I don't know. I also don't want a Diplomatic Victory, so there's another mark against you. Vote new blood. Vote for Nobody.

Well, the time has come for me to respond to the allegations brought forth by my opponent, as well as answer the questions of our good citizens. In the meantime, please re-read the opening post of my short tenure as Term 4 Foreign Minister. If elected, I pledge to uphold the spirit of my mission statement below for Term 5. Most of it still applies, though we as a nation have softened our approach somewhat.

People of Japanatica,

As this term opens, we find ourselves at odds with the entire world. Were this a real world scenario, I believe that the Zulu and French would already be using our skirmish with the Iroquois as a chance to attack our northern border in the hopes of staving off a major threat to their very existence. But alas, this is a simple game of Civ, so it seems we are free to strike unchecked anyone who stands in the way of our desires, no matter how insignificant the spoils.

This is why I felt it important to come out of semi-retirement for this term. We need to bring a sense of honor back to our intentions. We need to know how to send a consistent message to interlopers without becoming butchers ourselves. Our nation has laid the groundwork to become the example for all nations to follow, yet we must exhibit a newfound sense of kindness to do so.

Do we have the wherewithall to hold our malevolent instincts in check, so that we can become the leaders of a free and prosperous world? I believe that we do. And with the peoples' blessing, I will do what I can to gain favor back from nations who no longer trust us.

There are many of us who wish for a Diplomatic Victory, and I would like to help deliver that if it is still a prevailing option. But it will take some reprogramming of our natural Civ tendencies to pull it off. Please join me in closing the book on the barbaric history of Japanatica, so that we may enter an era of peace and prosperity. And please join me in helping to play this game as if there were real world consequences, instead of painting in the numbers to yet another DemoGame Conquest victory.

What do you say, Japanatica? The eyes of the world are watching........

Respectfully.

Donovan Zoi
Foreign Minister

To begin, I feel I must respond to the increased speculation about my loyalty to the Foreign Ministry, not to mention Japanatica, based on my prompt resignation at the outset of Term 4. Nobody(the candidate) was right to bring this up, and I should be taken to task for it.

If anything, chalk it up to righteous indignation. My office was dealt two severe blows before it even started, and I chose to make a symbolic stand against what I felt was an increasing military attitude towards our relations with others.

The first blow was more than just the unapproved taking of Salamanca and the subsequent advance on Niagara Falls at the end of Term 3; it was the lack of outrage from the populace that followed this treacherous act from a lame duck administration. This act of unilaterism was apparently justifiable in hindsight because it allowed the infamous Tojo to emerge from the ranks to fulfill the promise of our great land.

Fine, I said. Cooler heads will prevail with our new President Sir Donald III, and Tojo will certainly put his efforts toward reviatlizing a war-torn region by placing our Forbidden Palace there.

Then came Blow #2. The people instead chose to allow Tojo to enhance our already strident troops with a cavalry Army! We had already easily punished a flourishing nation well beyond a reasonable limit. Now we found a need to increase that ability at the expense of the fiscal dominance an FP would provide? That, my friends, was too much for me to accept so I resigned on principle. With a competent deputy CivGeneral in the wings, I knew that this symbolic gesture would not cause much harm to Japanatica.

If anything, it may have even helped on some subversive level. There is no way I would ever take credit for changing the perceptions of our nation through my one act of selfishness, but there is no question that most of Japanatica is now taking into account the attitudes of others when considering foreign policy.

With this new era of diplomacy comes a chance for me to realize the dreams of last term, with the blessing of our people. I am the originator of the Japanatican goodwill initiative and am honored that my opponent would plan to instill the very same values that I put forth last term. I look forward to working with him in whatever capacity is chosen by the people.

Respectfully,

Donovan Zoi
Deputy Foreign Minister

1.Why has none of you asked for nationalism and espionage in order to make the FA job more meaningful and result oriented. Here I consider MPPs from nationalism and Espionage options as key.

Since Russia possesses Nationism right now, we could actually pursue an MPP with them right away. I had mentioned it somewhere , but had never opened a thread on that. An MPP with Russia would be the first step in reaching out to Atarashika, but would likely put us at odds with China. I may address this as Deputy Minister before the end of the term, depending on my schedule.

Espionage is also a great tool, but we must use it carefully once we have it . The planting of a spy could thrust us headlong into war, so we would need to safeguard ourselves against that possibility. For this reason, Espionage is not a huge priority for me.

2. Why have none of you advocated for which nations to make as close allies on our continent, and pre-empt war, and why did not you address the MPP offer that came from the Zulus.

To honest, I didn't know about the MPP deal with the Zulus. But if I did, I likely wouldn't have taken it. I would like to improve our relationship with France, however.

I am an advocate of building closer ties with Russia, because it may give us the chance to build a meaningful bond on Atarashika, while giving the hawks something to look forward to should anyone test that bond.

3. Do you agree to poll the offered peace agreement against the next doctrinal expansion of the war, for example Mpondo and Isandhlwana against your offer?

Most definitely. I plan to honor the latest doctrinal polls set forth by MSAV, but would also try to convince the military establishment to repoll if I felt their objectives had become obsolete.

4. How would you handle a Chinese agression on the other continent, gobbling up our neighbors on the other continent?

It's pretty clear that if any nation is capable or running the table in the West, it is China. Therefore, I think an MPP with Russia would force us to help maintain balance on that continent, so that is what I would push for. We could also strengthen our bond with America to meet the same end.

5. How would you handle another power entering our continent (another country) from Atarashika?

They would be asked politely to leave, unless we had an RoP with them. For the record, I am against continental RoPs unless they come attached to an MPP. We need to trust fully those that we allow into our borders. Sadly, my opponent does not share that view.

And now, to bring the session current:

6. What procedures and/or policies would you put in place so that we could respond to foreign nation requests while taking into account the WOTP?

I think that we would immediately need to address how we should handle trespassers. In the discussion thread, I would allow the people to determine whether we should pursue a blanket policy or poll each nation on its own merits. I myself would lean toward the blanket policy of rebuffing all trespassers.

Next would be an initaitive to improve relations with those who share our continent. I still contend that the gifting of a luxury would be the best way to turn those frowns upside-down. I am currently proposing that very solution for the recent encroachment by the Zulu.

Finally, well-placed MPPs would automatically allow our DP to make a decision based on the actions of another civ. I would work with MSAV to ensure that their response is neither too harsh or too light.

4. How would you handle a Chinese agression on the other continent, gobbling up our neighbors on the other continent?

China hasnt done anything to agressive to us. China attacked their neighbours early in the game, but so did we. We have alot in common and with our large land masses together we control a lot of the worlds resources. If we bulid a strong relationship with these people we could gurantee stability on both continent. But we must also be carefull, china is out biggest rival and the worlds second leading nation. The only way they could over take us is if they conqured more land. So we must be ready to stand with our Atarashika freinds. Because if we allow China to conquer the entire contient, this will threanten our chances of victory. If China was to attack its neighbours i would advocat Trade embargos and possiably Military allainces. For example if China attacks russia, we could sign military alliances with the americans and the Aztecs, together the three nations could stop china. And all we would have to do is send a token force. But as of right now china has done nothing agreessive. And i don't want to aleinate China potential future crimes. The best policy we can use now is to bulid up freindships around the world with Gifts of luxuarys and Right of Passages.

5. How would you handle another power entering our continent (another country) from Atarashika?

I would welcome them with open arms. We want to colonise there continent therefore they can do similar to ours, but i don't think there is much spare space on ours.

6. What procedures and/or policies would you put in place so that we could respond to foreign nation requests while taking into account the WOTP?

As far as tresspassers are concerned i think we should ask them to leave, but not demand they leave without first polling. And of course iam in favor of Right of Passages. When ever a issue apears i will first explain all the options to the people, then i will explain what one i am in favor of. Then i will poll, what ever the people chose is what we will do. And i promiss not to do crazy polls that people can not understand, i will always have a clear No and a clear Abstain option.

For the record, I am against continental RoPs unless they come attached to an MPP. We need to trust fully those that we allow into our borders. Sadly, my opponent does not share that view.

We have the largest military in the world they can defend us, we need to open our borders to our freinds it isnt like or close border policy has stoped anyone coming in so far. After 20 turns we will be able to cancle a rop at anytime so it will not hinder our military operations it will speed them up.

As far a mutal protections pacts are concerned i would rather keep the decision of declareing war in Japantican hands. Although I understand my competitors position, he likes to hand his responsabilitys to others although normally he choses people from our nation.

I've just decided to go with Nobody, after alot of consideration. I would be happy with either in office.

Offering an RoP to nations of this continent is unnecessary and naive, as our "guests" would be able to use our own railnet to sniff out our weakest points and exploit them. Do we really want to invest in maximum defense for all of our cities for this meaningless risk?

I'll ignore the Karl Rove tactic of repetition and address the topic in a mature manner. An MPP allows us to make an honor-bound choice instead of an imperialistic one. We need to build strong relationships and stand by them instead of casting an invite to out acquaintances and hoping no one takes advantage of our generosity.

As the world becomes more complex, we will need to court our best prospects before their interests fall into the wrong hands. And an MPP is the best way of doing so; alliances may lock us in for longer than is beneficial.

Not having RoP has not stoped the enemy attacking us so far. If we have one with freindly nations it will show them we are not agressive. I dont want them with dangerous nations e.g. iroquios (and if zulu attacks zulu) we would first bulid up freind ship by offering gifts. Having everyone anoyed at us has not worked so far.

I don't know who karl rove is, but iam not repeating the you quit thing to just drill it in. its just you did quit, and right away. Diplomatically we are in the same situation now as we were before. why should people think you wont quit again?

Then let's give gifts. Offering the key to the city to currently annoyed civs certainly isn't the answer.

Yes I did. And I explained my reasoning to the best of my ability. As for promises, it would be political suicide for me to quit again so son't expect it. I lost support from some of my fiercest supporters this time out. So relax....you are stuck with me no matter how this plays out. ;)

BTW, Karl Rove is Dubya's election Svengali. :)
