I've overlooked these for too long I think. I've been playing different civs than my usual just to see if there are any suprises and this was one of them. The power in them is that they turn production tiles (+2 hammers) into farms without losing the production. So all those hills become +2 food +2 hammers min, more if next to a mountain and even more with fertilizer. It really is quite powerful for science where you need both high population and production.

Anyone got any other civs they would recommend I give a look at, and why?

Unless I am mistaken terrace farms now also benefit from civil service food boost. :)

If you like unique improvements you should try the dutch (polder, requires guilds, +3 food, can only be build on swamps and floodplains, +1 hammer and +2 gold with economics) and Polynesia (Moai).

I like both of those civs - Polders rock. I find the moai less useful because of the coastal requirement. Though getting three or more lined up is nice if you can. Usually they just eat spots I'd rather place a GA or GP though.

So far, Aztecs, Incans, Dutch have been very fun. I saw some UUs that say they increase great general points - that could be fun to try and play with. Also, huns starting with animal husbandry and getting +1 hammers on pastures has promise for peaceful purposes I have yet to explore. I think I might try huns on a sheep map like highlands or a cow map like the great plains.

Yep, I like the Inca as well.

Actually, what you should try is the Chinese on a map like Highlands. Setting down citadels at choke points is very fun (especially since citadels got a buff in G&K). There aren't many map types out there that will allow you to take full advantage of the Chinese UA of faster GG spawn rate like Highlands will.

I guess you play a lot of immortal so if you've already played the most flexible civilization in the game then you probably touched everything. I've always found Askia to be intriguing though, there's strangely not much attention on Songhai lately even though war canoes and amphibious on every unit is really borderline OP. On immortal I found him to be a staunch ally (as usual) but really a devil of an enemy as his units are horribly painful on cities.
