terrible idea #42: simulate 500 million years of evolution on the planet. if it turns out no animal is smart enough to domesticate, then you can't have livestock or mounts. if it turns out no such thing as angiosperms has generated, then you can't farm (or start the game)

Terrible Idea #6: To facilitate micromanagement population is now represented as civilian units on the map.

As a matter of fact, Civ4 Colonization was based on that principle and it turned out very fun! I played a lot to a mod called "Religion and Revolution". I've long thought that a similar game from Neolithic to modern days could be interesting, yet I agree that wouldn't be a "Civilization" game.
