Test of time

Just use this one, or whichever Civ2 one is appropriate. ToT is still civ2 and works the same in most aspects.

Apolyton has a separate Test of Time forum but if you post in it you won't likely get an answer soon, because the forum is dead and all the active people, also those using ToT, post in the Civ2 General or Creation forums anyway.

If it's not a really technical problem, I'm willing to try. I play ToT almost exclusively, and have a game going right now.

Many thanks. I'm playing the extended original game and can't find my last civilisation. If I cheat and find them they have loads of cities but where are they?

Many thanks. I gather I am going to have to build a space ship then and get to Alpha Centauri. As I have conquered all our world, it's going to be a bit boring waiting for all the discoveries to be done but I'll give it a go.

Cheers

Yeah... That's the deal with the Extended Original. You have to launch your spaceship to get to Alpha Centauri. That will reveil a second map with an alien civ on it (only if you're playing with 7 civs).

You can also win without conquering the aliens, though. You also win the game if you discover the Transcendence technology. So if you don't want that, be careful you don't research that while you're waiting for your spaceship to land.

Time has beaten me. With my spaceship only half built, I am going to retire in twenty years. I'd have thought it necessary to increase the time allowed if I have to go to Alpha Centauri then fight another civ.

Nil Desperandum

Oh, dear.

The way I play the Extended Original game is to start on Alpha Centauri. Just think -- a whole planet all to yourself, with no enemies except the occasional barbarian. The only units you need to produce are those sufficient to explore, find goodie huts, and your settlers. You don't even need to defend your cities, because there's nobody there to attack you.

Now you may wonder -- how do I get the tech that other civs get?

Just build the Great Library first -- as fast as possible. You'll get lots of tech that way. And invest heavily in libraries and marketplaces. Build the Wonders that give you knowledge, money, and sufficient happiness to stave off the civil disorder problems.

I just try to build the wonders myself -- after all, I won't be able to get at them if the Earthpeople build them first. I'd have to build my ship, go there, and then try to get the wonders (if they were still around).

Build the diplomacy-granting Wonders just so the Earth civs can't use them. Ditto with the Great Wall. You won't really need them, but you'll also deny them to the enemies.

So you can spend most of the game exploring, building, and increasing tech. Then, when you're getting into the modern tech, you can start to build your military units to defend your cities, and get some units ready to go for when you reach Earth.

By that time you should have a good sum of money on hand. I suggest rush-building your spaceship as much as you can. Ditto earlier for your libraries and factories. You want knowledge and production, fast!

Then you won't be stuck at half a spaceship and 20 years to go! ;)

Many thanks Valka D'Ur. All those tips are great. I'll try starting on Alpha Centauri. Does that mean I have to have all 7 civs and do I have to play the alien civ?

You're welcome. :)

Yes, to start on Alpha Centauri you have to play one of the alien races. You have 3 to choose from. You also have to select the option for all 7 civs. The seventh is whichever alien civ you want to be. The aliens never start on Earth.

Good luck, and keep us posted! :)
