Test pitboss

Ok, I will not ask about specific details, as I suspect there was clause for being confidential, but just tell me - is it looking like a good game - something like web-based Civ4 pitboss on a huge map with many players, or it is something like those crappy xxxxville facebook games where you need to plant and pick your strawberries every 5 hours and to make it even worst - hexagons and 1 unit per tile like in Civ5?

Well - this is strike straight to the heart.

Right now you made me green of envy :yuck:
 Sorry about that. Did you apply to be a tester yourself?

That would be correct. ;)

I still haven't had that much of a chance to play the game (it's down for maintenance quite a bit during the alpha, as you might imagine)... and I'm not permitted to say that much anyway. However, I'll say it's definitely proving to be a fun and addictive game so far. There seem to be quite a few clever innovations which don't make it too critical to play every few hours (although you might find it hard to stop yourself anyway ;) ).

I don't think it's any kind of spoiler to mention that obviously (as it's a Facebook game) there are options to purchase stuff in-game with real money. I'm not sure yet how this will affect the possibility of playing highly competitive games - you can probably imagine that the option of purchasing stuff is rather close to having a "cheat button" available, which the extremely competitive might not like. Still, it's possible there'll be solutions figured out to that. Either way, it's definitely proving fun to play. :)

Thanks for the comments.

Too bad to hear about the byuing thing. It seems even Sid sold his soul to the ZengaDEvil. I am sure in this kind of addictive and complex game there is endless opportunities to exploit and get money from the addicted players, but I hope they will make something like option about "Hardcore game" or "Hardcore player" where once you join, there will be no possible buying/cheating in the game.

In fact I put my bet at the best horse I knew - I applied with the team of Apolyton.net - this is the second oldest and biggest fan site for Civ and yet their team was not approved.

Thanks for the comments.
No problem. :)

I'm not sure that's necessarily fair. The game has to make money somehow - the marketers at 2K will be keeping an eye on that. If players aren't paying to be able to play the game in the first place (fine for Civ4/Civ5/etc, but wouldn't be ideal for a Facebook game)... then there has to be some option to make money in-game. Just the unavoidable issue of running a game company, I guess. ;)

I imagine that would be possible to set up, but you have to think from 2K's perspective - what's the benefit from that for them? Perhaps it could work if players pay a small fee to start those exclusive games. Who knows at this point though. I'm sure something will be worked out, or I hope so anyway. :)

Ah, ok. I joined a relatively small and obscure group... perhaps that's why I managed to get in. Don't know though. I tried to get in with the Apolyton guys for testing Civ5, but that didn't work - hence the change of tactic.

I'd just like to apologise for my disappearance from this game however many months ago it was. I just didn't want anything to do with Civ or this forum after copping a rather lengthy ban from here.

No worries. So are you back to Civ these days, or have you still had enough? :)

Hey azzaman, welcome back (or a brief hello if you're not staying). We figured out what had happened and sorted something out at least. There's not many people come back to apologise for disappearing so good on you. Sounds like you had a better excuse than most too.

No civ. I'd probably play Civ4 again if not for the problem of having lost the disc for the vanilla civ4.

I dunno if I'll be staying round yet, depends how much time I need to kill.

Do this means you are back in here? If so, welcome back.

I tried to take good care about your civ and it is doing well as far as I can judge. However the things are not bright for our alliance at the moment.

I can't play civ, I have no disc to reinstall it (my hard drive died at some point while away). And even if I could, I still wouldn't want to try to take my spot back.

Dave, did you get the email with the save file attached? :)
Um... so DaveShack, what's happening with the reload? :) Did you get the save file I sent? If not, can you PM me an address to send it to? I haven't heard anything back from you since you asked for the file several days back.

Ok, thanks Dave. Will try to get our turn sorted out ASAP.

Just checked, and Civstats is down - although logging into the game works fine.

Also, if Civstats is not working, we expect your team to play and pause and announce here, so we to have time to react and not to lose the turn.

Of course. We'll let you know. :)
