TestNES: Haunted Fun House

On the way to the house, I trail behind the others, and read Annie's diary.

First Entry of Relevance:

Dear Diary,

I hired a guy named Jack today. Kind of an odd fellow. Always wears a trench coat. Talks funny. But he seems to be a decent enough of a guy. Makes a mean drink too.

But I gotta ask. What's a guy with a medical major in psychology doing bartending at a town like this?

Second Entry of Relevance:

Dear Diary:

Jack's a good kid, but he's a little bit nosy. He's already been checking out too many people's closets.

But guess who's been frequenting the bar lately. Palma Cross aka Rose Marigold. I had my book signed by her. Amazingly, she and Jack seems to know each other. Apparently they met in college.

Meeting in person though, I can say several things about her.

But then again I feel safer not saying them at all.

Third Entry of Relevance:

Jack's dug too deep. Been messing with the wrong crowd. I told him to stop, but he won't listen.

I'm worried.

Fourth Entry of Relevance:

Some bastard ambushed Jack and beat the crap out of him. Hit him in the head with what seems to be a fire poker. Doctors say that he will make a full recovery but... I better go to the hospital to make sure that he's okay.

Police told me that Jack refused to identify who the assailant was. If I learn the assailant's identity I'm going to wring his neck myself.

Fifth Entry of Relevance.

Tailed Jack. Knew it is wrong, but I need to know what he's messing with. There's a rumor that he's been messing with drug trading. I need to make sure that that's false. I won't have a dealer among my staff.

--Jack's a good kid, just as I thought he was.

Sixth Entry of Relevance:

Jack came in later than usual, paler than ever. I asked him what was going on, but he didn't answer. Just kept on looking out the window, peering over his shoulders all day long.

"Miss Cross, we need to know what is going on here. What do you mean by stray cats? What do you and Jack do?" Carl stopped when he heard the footsteps. "Miss Cross, who is in the house with us?" Takes holds his hand out and takes the Chinese paper. "Let's see what we have here..."

Carl has no idea what tha peper could be.

"Jack and I don't do anything together," Cross hisses back. "I write books, he tends bars."

Ms. Cross looks up to the ceiling. "It must be the ghosts. The sound came close to the windows upstairs! Everyone, out of the house, now!"

OOC: Sorry for the absence. Am I in the house with everyone? If so, just kinda hang in the back of the group in case we need to book it, but pay very close attention to details while we're there.

Hmm, I posted a scene and a chase mechanic a while ago, but I do admit it was kind of convoluted.

Laura took off east.

Roll a Constitution X 4 and check if it succeeds. If you do so, I give you a situation for you to react. If you succeed in the situation, you get closer to capturing Laura.

If you fail a constitution check, I give you a harder situation to solve.

OOC: I have no idea of the significance of Annie's diary.

IC: Jack inspects the shredded paper, what is on it?

OOC: That's probably because it's insignificant as to the identity of the entity haunting the house.

IC: Some Chinese writing you cannot identify.

"Of course sir," the receptionist of the town hall beams at you. "I'll get it for you right away."

She doesn't, of course. She presses a button and whispers something through the phone. It's a long wait, but an intern eventually appears and delivers the blue print to her.

"Here you go."

It's an ordinary house, alright. In the first floor, there is a rather large kitchen, which can be accessed directly from the living room. People must enter through the house through the living room, which has a fireplace and a large window that has a nice view of the street, along with whatever it is that is across the street.

Dining room is accessible from the kitchen. It's unusually large size suggests that it also doubles as another living room.

There's also a closet under the stairs.

There is a basement with 4 rooms. Renovation notes suggest that they were converted into recreation room, a laundry room, a storage, and a bathroom each.

Upstairs is a series of bedrooms and bathrooms, with a single study. The attic, however, is incredibly strange. Instead of relying on the drop-down ladder, the attic is accessible by a hidden stairwell in the master bedroom. The only way to reach the attic is through a small crawlspace. Blueprint suggests that it has been sealed off at one point, as it lacks a door.

Reviewing his scribbles on his brochure about the house, Jack decides to inspect upstairs, see if the the bedrooms were also torn up.

(Assume you followed Cross out of the house briefly first)

"There!" one of your cries out towards the window. All of you look up and notice a silhouette at the window. "There's someone in there!"

"Where!" Cross shouts out. "I didn't see it!"

All of you ignore Cross and rushes into the house. "What if it's not a ghost?" one of you mutters.

"Maybe it's a thief... or those teenagers..."

"Or maybe even a chimpanzee."

"I'll kill them," Cross blurts out. "I'll make them into a ghost."

Going up the stair reveals 3 hallways, each with 2 rooms. The silhouette was seen in the western hallway in a room to the left.

Carl, follows Jack into the house. "Jack, I would like to stress that caution is key in these situations." Carl strained to hear anything or anyone in the house. He also strained to see anything moving.

Moving back to Korea for a while- will resume updating asap.

Carl, follows Jack into the house. "Jack, I would like to stress that caution is key in these situations." Carl strained to hear anything or anyone in the house. He also strained to see anything moving.

Moving upstairs, the signs of struggle and scratches disappear abruptly and reveals a house in pristine conditions.

Even though Carl could swear that he could hear movements coming from the master bedroom, he cannot see anything unusual.

The master bedroom has a single queen's size bed in the center. In front of where the crawl space is supposed to be is a large and very heavy looking cabinet. The air is heavy with... something. The stars are bright out tonight outside the window.

Briefly, Jack looks out the window of the bedroom, to see if it gives him any sight of the silhouette.

Jack also inspects the inside of the cabinet, and sees if it can be moved to access the crawl space.

Carl helps Jack move the cabinet, and then Carl slowly creeps up to the bed, and looks underneath it.

I'm formally putting an hiatus onto this before I can get myself motivated again. I am truly sorry for this.

If you want, I can reveal some spoilers about the story as a whole.
