TETurkhan Test of Time (Map & Mod)

just to piggyback on what many have said before me, i think that working to merge dyp and your mod would make for an awesome mod. the reason dyp offers appeal to your mod is because it cataloges more of the technological "test of time" through its very complex tech tree. i know just copy/paste of that tech tree would not work at all, but the idea of having your mod with the same amount of complex tech advancements as dyp offers something i think fixaris would be quite jealous they didnt think of!

thanks again and good luck putting together 2.0

just another note...

as far as civs in your mod goes... is there a way you can incorporate america into the mix? it just seems odd to me that why the modern age comes around the only superpower around is nowhere to be found. maybe you could just severly handicap them early on and only give them one city... and then later on allow them to build "super"- workers that could really help their expansion. probably not 2.0 material (for sure) but it would only make your mod more realistic in the long run.. a goal worthy of the effort

what do you think? anybody else miss america here?

One of my favorite parts of Call to Power 2 was that when you developed the AI entity, it could develop sentience and split your empire into two different nations. I highly doubt such a split is possible the way Civ 3 was made, but I think if America were to be re-added, it would be really really cool if under certain conditions it could form out of another nation. Sort of like if Europe colonizes the New World or Africa before there is sufficient means of fast communication between eachother (i.e. radio), then there would be a percent chance each turn that the nation would split in two (possibly forming America). Also I wish there was a chance of this happening when a capital was conquered. Sort of like in real history, when Rome was conquered, the nation split into the remnants of Roma and the Byzantine Empire. I think having countries split in two because of conquered capitals, long distances, or corruption would be an awesome feature.

Of course, this is dreaming, as I am almost 100% sure that this could not be programmed into Civ3.

One thing I'd like to see more of is the popups... you know, Pliny the Elder's bla bla blah, Livy's whatever. Those are fun... back in Civ1 they had newspaper headlines and everything, and they came more often... now they're few and far between, and just a tiny little window. I'd like to see them more often.

Personally I don't think having the americans in is a good idea. Tet intentionally left Australia and most of Africa and the America's to be colonized. Therefor all the nations you see in the game were either real powers before the imperialistic times or technologically 'backward' civs like the zulu and native americans. The americans as you know them today are neither of these.
The most realistic way to simulate the rise of the american power would be to have the AI create the new civ when about 70% of north america is colonized, give it half of the established cities, and most of the techs the original owners had. They would then start a few wars and quickly become one of the greatest powers in the world. So they can then attack small, remote countries for resources or whatever reasons they might have, without the approval of the rest of the world population. Oops, sorry, that slipped away from me, ignore it.
I suspect this is all impossible to achieve though.

I'd vote for putting the "missing" civs back in...here's why...I don't play this mod with the world map, but use random maps, as I like the excitement of discovery. Therefore, it's kind of like playing "civ on steriods", with more complex units, tech tree, etc....so, the more civs included the better.

just .02...

and ok, now my $.03...after playing this mod for a while, "normal/plain" civ is boring...and I'd even like to see a GOTM using Tet's modpack...would be great.

:p
I will not get into the discussion as to why the usa entered both ww's, howlong they waited to do so, and howmuch money they made supplying both sides. This is not the place for that. Plus my point was about today, not 60 or 90 years ago. Please don't feel personally attacked Ruiner. The chances are slim that you make policy decisions in america, and the one that does didn't even have 50% of the votes. So you can still feel pretty confident in your collective common sense.

I had originally put America in the mod, but as a dormant Civ that didn't do much until after 1700's. The problem was that if you tried to play them, your game was incredibly boring up until that time... after that time however things became real exciting cause I gave the Americans many extras ;) I do however plan on finishing this scenario "American Destiny" sometime this year… It will take place from around the mid 1700's to modern times... It would be on the world map w/cities and all things of course historically accurate...

Mods to watch out for from me this year:
1. TETurkhan "Test of Time" 2.0 (World Map, World Map w/Cities, Random Map w/America, PLUS two more maps one smaller for those of you with slower PC's-Kalel's 140 by 140 most likely and one huge one -probably el mencey's 364 by 364... Cities, Resources & Civs along with all other things will be transferred from the current map over to these two...

2. TETurkhan "American Destiny" - play and witness the rise of a super power or dare to stand in their way!

3. TETurkhan "Battlefield" - think of a fast Chess like game, multiplayer... Scenarios: Lord of the Rings, Star Trek, MechWarriors, Heaven & Earth (Takeda vs. Kagetora) plus other Samurai Wars and more ;)

4. TETurkhan "Clash of Titans" - Role-play, multiplayer...

5. TETurkhan "Quest for Power" - Role-play, multiplayer

6. TETurkhan "Romance of the Three Kingdoms" - Lu Bu, Sun Ce, Cao Cao come to life in CivIII!!!

Lots of work - many of them already started :)
(Now you know the reason behind the delays for version 2.0 ;)

All of these will come out in one download... anyhow I should get back to work!!!

In my version of your mod I added American to the justmod version, I had to I can not play a game without them.:)

I don't know if you know this or not, but there is a battletech mod underway. You should be able to use the units in it if you want to make a mechwarrior mod.

All of these will come out in one download... anyhow I should get back to work!!!

Putting them in one download might not be a good idea, since it can take a while for slower modems, and some people may only want one or two of your mods.

As Redwood Tree said, playing "normal" civ now is just...weird. Only 16 civs? How is it possible?

There is a BIG different between now and World War 2.....

How about how Harry Truman didn't help the Vietnamese against the evil imperialistic europeon country and help them gain their freedom? If we did that, no Vietnam war and a Democratic Vietnam would have existed..... probably didn't even have to go to war, its not like we couldn't convince France to leave.

Guys, this really isn't the place for this stuff.

Off Topic is a lovely little place where you can have this kind of discussion, but here you are being personally disrespectful to TETurkhan, this is his mod thread.

Any comment on when we could expect to see 2.0? Weeks or months?

We are still talking months away... however there is a very good reason for this :) which I cannot say right now?:mischief: ...

All i can tell you is that the wait will be worth it... things are being done to this mod that will blow people out of the water (can you tell I run a promotional company? :D )

I was thinking though, in the mean time to put out a more balanced version - not the updated version 2.0 which is still under construction but 1.9 which has all the fixes, and way more balanced that the current download... what do you people think?

smart to post 1.9 or wait for 2.0?

Wait for 2.0, I think it will be worth the wait.:)
