Thal,
I just want to take a moment here to thank you for the incredible time and effort you've put into making this mod and (in my opinion) significantly improving CiV. The mod has increased my enjoyment of pretty much every aspect of the game, especially growing competitive tall empires and making combat much more challenging and fun.

Absolutely agreed... Thal's modest "+10 strategy, balance, and fun!" tagline should really be +120, and being part of this active mod community is lots of fun too.

I have to fully agree with wobuffet there. I was part of a small team working on another mod for another game, where we only had 5 people working together, and I still feel more a part of VEM just by being here on the forums then I ever did working 24/7 on that mod.

The only better thing than VEM is its community :)

This forum has been so active recently with the addition of you guys and others, it's really great! There were some times when it felt like it was just Txurce and I (and Thal of course!) and it's fantastic to have all these great ideas and enthusiasm. Like I said earlier today in another thread, it's amazing that this mod still continues to greatly improve and evolve after all this time! So thank you too.:D

I tried modding a couple times.. Starcraft 2, Civ 5 itself, Supreme Commander, Warcraft 3 and a couple others I completely forget the name off..

Can't do it for longer then a week, let alone a year+, even with SC2/WC3's "easyness" (Official Editor)

Tweaking code is just so.. "sigh" I believe you have to have a passion to do this kind of thing if you can manage do it longer then a couple months, especially considering how often you update. Though I'm sure you take breaks, as you should.

:goodjob:

Given how much Thal has done for the actual mod, it should be easy to overlook the creation of a community as well. But he is excellent at managing his multi-thread empire!

Thanks Thal, great mod which does what it says, enhances vanilla adding some balance and plenty of fun. I've played a couple of mods for this and other games which take it too far towards another game, sacrificing fun for realism. :goodjob:

The name of the mod is to be taken literally.

Really good job, so much of your stuff is gone and will be gone in the official patches.

For the next expansion i hope you can take a seat at 2k/Firaxis, if you aren´t already close to them. :crazyeye::king:

sorry for the mini necro on the thread but I had to add my thanks to everyone behind this mod.

I've been putting off installing it for a while as I wanted to build up my skills on vanilla civ.... but after making the switch the difference is incredible. So many valid options for strategic choices and a far better balanced game overall. I've been using units I've never really bothered building before. I'm losing horribly in my first game but I'm loving every turn.

As a coder and game admin in a previous life I know what a huge time commitment this mod must be. thanks to thal and to all those who have contributed.

((I have spotted a number of bugs in my game - is there a list somewhere of already known bugs? or do i have to hunt through bug threads?)

It's okay if any of the bugs you've found are repeats of earlier ones. After trying the common checklist go ahead and start a thread on the bug report forum. Known bugs generally get solved quickly. There's some particularly difficult ones which survive longer, but they're rare, so I don't keep a list.

I have posted this on your wordpress site as well, but I am also very appreciative of your excellent mod. By comparision, vanilla Civ 5 is unplayable. I wish that you had even more access to the game core, or that they were getting your feedback directly for G&K!

I am constantly impressed by Thal's dedication to keeping ciV alive. I too got distracted by Skyrim over the last few months but only VEM civ has replay value for me out of all the games I have played, and it is all because of Thal's (and his helpers) work.
