THis in non civ related but there is a program called "spinway.com_DO_NOT_EDIT" that keeps installing itself in my virtual private network connentions ( go to control panel, internet options and then the connection tab) I keep removing it and it keeps putting itself back (damn hackers) does anyone know how to permanently get rid of that other that reformatting my HD?

Thanks!

AD Aware might be able to remove it, give it a try!

Thanks DaEezT, I forgot I loaded Ad Aware on my PC, I'll give it a try and let you know

If that doesn't work, try Spybot Search and Destroy. It works pretty good, where AdAware doesn't come up.

Download it here

Edit: ^^^ That's weird. . .there's no line breaks when I edit it. . .

Well Ad Aware didn't work, I'll try spybot.. thanks turner :goodjob:

That didn't work Turner it's still there. THis isn't like a cookie or like gator, this is a little dialer program that installed itself. I've read about these things and heard they are almost impossible to get rid of. The reason I never noticed it before is because I just got rid of my broadband recently (temporarily) but now that I have a dialup connection it keeps trying to dial out. They must have gotten into trouble beccause it's a dissconnected number, so I have a little dialer program that I can't get rid of that dials a disconnected number anyway.

Does anyone else have any ideas?

Spybot does work better than ad aware for everything else though, thanks.

Both programs are good, but don't catch everything. I run both adaware and spybot, and find that adaware catches some of the stuff that spybot misses, and spybot catches some of the stuff that adaware misses; I alternate which one I run first on the two computers that I use them on.

Spinway.com appears to be most associated with Bluelight.com (KMart ISP). Do you have the bluelight.com on your computer? It used to be free from KMart before they made it a paid ISP?

Yeah, I just did a search on Yahoo, and there's a bunch of Spinway/bluelight hits. I didn't do much research, but it looks like spinway.com is the provider for bluelight.com.

A look at their homepage reveals that it's a $9.95/mo ISP. I think it should be okay to disable, if not delete. . .but I would ask someone else first.

Good thing is, from what I gather from your posts sabo, is that you don't have any trojans or spyware, right? Well, that's what I get from your post.

You culd try the following: run -> msconfig and look at the last tab. It should be easy to check because it shows you the full path and/or the name of the exe file of many apps that start with windows.
And if you are really barve you could try the tab to its left or regedit, but those two can mess up your system :o

You guys are right on.. I started living with my girl friend who didn't have internet and I needed a way to get on, I just happened to be in K mart the other day and picked up a copy of blue light so I can have free internet for a month until I can get broad band hooked up... good call!

Every time I remove it, it comes back. I suppose the only way I'm going to be able to permanatly get rid of it is when I get my broad band... thanks alot!!! :goodjob:
