Well ... i should have said he is not stupid in THIS case , 'cause i know he is stupid :)

Stormrage suggested that i try and make the first 3 wonders have a bad effect. I didn't do exactly that, here's what i did:

I made 5 dud-wonders that cost 1 shield each and can be built from the begining of the game:
1. 10 unhappy all
2. 10 unhappy in city
3. 20 polution
4. 20 maintainance
5. -20 culture

I was expecting that the AI would simply build them because they are GW but NO!!!!! he did not ... First i thought... maybe i should wait a while, so i started building all the good wonders before the AI . At a certain point i beat the ai to the Pyramids and he CHOSE TO WASTE A HUNDRED SHIELDS instead of building one of my dud-wonders. And i continued to play till the 2nd era ... i thought maybe he needs more time and more cities ... Nope i was wrong even though there were no other wonders to build and the AI (10 civs to be exact) had 5 cities each.

In conclusion THE AI ISN'T STUPID-BUT THIS DOESN'T MEAN HE IS SMART :)

In the test i am going to make tomorrow or this evening i will add identical positive efects to the 5 dud-wonders to see if the AI can judge wether the wonder is good or not ... if he is smart, then he will build the -20 culture/20 polution and maybe even 20 maintainance | if he is stupid then he will build the 10 unhappyness ... we will see :)

The civ games' building queue has been refined over a long time period, I wouldn't expect any great problems here these days.

What if you mix the positive and negative effects ? I.e.

10 unhappy in city but 11 culture gain in city
-would the AI go for the 11 culture + despite the odds?
---

Alsthough 10 unhappy is madness, for the AI it might be good. It would be nice to see what they choose. I bet they would build it.

The AI may not be stupid in this case but it is certainly an annoying treacherous bastard  ! I mean my best AI ally waited until nearly the end of the game when we also had a military alliance against another more powerful AI when he attacked me. In the end that was very stupid of him because in three turns he was destroyed  .

So far I am pretty happy with civ3's (conquest) performance compared to early stage civ4. Especialy when considering the moding possibilities- Civ4 has recieved so many laurels for moddability- yet 90% of which is possible we cannot edit yet... where the civ3 AI is stupid though, is the attacks. Here the AI has no understanding of how to make a shore landing and to join forces- and is surely limited in making clever decissions such as: Landing zone A is heavily fortified- so I'll just land in zone B; or First attack was a failure, If there is chance for success try again until it works...

That is kinda what the second test will show ... tomorow

No, this just simply proves that the AI isn't ********. Simply stupid, but not ********.

The Iroquois did retreat their SOD before because the ismuth was blocked...

They had an SOD of about 50 Infantry, and, since they had to cross an istmus to get into the Aztec territory, and since the French also needed to cross through the istums, the French blocked off the istmus for 1 turn. And the Iroquis turned and ran all the way back to their capital. And when it was opened up the next turn, they came back, only to turn back again when the French troops retreated to heal.

I remember smthing from civ2 similar to this . The russians wanted to pass to the other continent through an istmus which was blocked intentionaly by me ... so they simply went THROUGH my soldiers , declaring war and all that ... and went to conquer whoever was o the other side (i forgot who)... so, after this they didn't send troups to atack me whatsoever ... they just wanted to pass  after the russian HUGE army passed they asked for peace and they could EASLY a city of mine that was 1 tile away and it was only defended by a puny rifleman ... strange ...

The second test is complete. Today i tested if the AI can weigh the pros and cons of wonders and decide which is best ...

Well this was strange ... it shows just how STUPID is the AI is , and at the same time it shows that he knows what cons are easier to face ... (in a certain extent...)

First i should say that i played with 10 civs, standard world, until 1000 AD.
I erased ALL the other wonders except Pyramids, my dud-wonders and the Statue of Zeus & Artemis (i forgot to erase them ).

My dud-wonders had been given a positive effect beside the negative ones i posted a few posts up.... They all gave +2 advances.
RESULTS: The computer build the one with polution and the one with maintainance ... strangely enough, he did not build the -20 culture which i would have built .
These results show an APPARENT "inteligence" (80 IQ points) however the pyramid test halves those points ...

Now the Pyramid test - I know the computer is obsessed with this wonder and always builds it so i added a 10 unhappy faces in all cities to it ... The AI , ALL THE 10 CIVS as soon as they got their hands on the tech they ALL started to build it.
This shows just how idiotic the AI is.

However i think there is an explanation to why he decided to build the pyramids instead of my dud-wonders. The FLAGS - maybe because my wonders didn't have any flags they didn't build it until a little later on ...

in civ2 i'd move an infantry unit to the bottleneck and park a bomber on it every turn- since no ground unit could attack a plane the ground unit remained there forever...
