The Ancient Rome Game

From Julium
To Aliso

The assault on Julium continues, and whilst victory is more likely then not the fall of even one city would lead to a Germaniac foothold on the Rhine. We are requesting reinforcements.

To The world
From Eboracum:

We have now something like 500 Gold Bars and 2000 Iron ones, along with a very large amount of timbre. WE are willing to trade, in paticular we are looking for Marble, as well as other luxery goods.

Berytus can offer some very fine dyes (Tyrian Purple is valued greatly across the known world) and glassware. It's rather long distance from here to Eboracum, but we will trade these for metal.

A extremely dusty lone rider appears outside the walls of Julium five days after the request for reinforcements, luckily the city was still Roman, and he was rapidly admitted inside.

"Governor Quirinus I have been sent to find out if your city is still under Roman control and the present situation. Up to a quarter of a legion will be sent to you to support your city, or retake it and avenge your name if it falls. Tell me enemy numbers, your own numbers, numbers of any allied tribes in the region and numbers of any other reinforcements. Then I would like your personal opinion on the odds of this battle and whether 1,200 legionaries and an equal number of auxiliaries would make a difference to the outcome of the battle. I would like to hasten to add Georgius Aemilius is hard pressed and hopes there is a significant threat to this settlement. A quarter of his legion is now on standby, out of fighting, ready to march here within ten days of it leaving. If you make the wrong call Governor he will die and the perimeter of the Empire will have a massive hole blown in its flank."

City Name: Alexandria.
City Location: Western Nile Delta, Aegyptus (Egypt).
Governor Name: Gaius Cornelius Gallus.
Preferred god: Balanced.
Enemies: Barbarians from south (?), Rebels, Greeks, Jews.
Goods Export: Food, textiles, stone, slaves, cotton, sugar, gold.
Goods Import: Wood, other metals.

Of course, Julium would be protected. Caius was Augustus' most trusted man.He had heard news, how long, how hard, how well he fought. He was once the top student of Dermokrates. Once Caius returned home, he was in for a surprise. Augustus decided to send a carrier pigeon to Julium. The messenger couldn't be trusted with top secret information. He tied the message to Caius' pigeon, and went to the window. He let the pigeon out. The pigeon would get to Caius within a day.

And now, the troops from Pompeii arrive at Julium, led by General Inius. Inius's first action is to tell people to stop laughing at his silly name, unless they wished to have their heads removed from their bodies and be given a one-way ticket to the underworld.

WE would be happy to send our gold bars and iron bars in exchange for a large shipment of Glassware and Dyes from Berytus. (

Deal. We hear purple toga are all the rage in the capital.

To Alexandria:
The timber of Phoenicia are easily the best in the Empire. We would be happy to trade them for food and stone.

Then it is done. Tell our emissary if you would like to pay in Aurii or gold bars, and if you would like it shipped out immediately (costs extra, for the galley slaves eat a lot) or wait for the caravans, and we'll arrange it for you.

"I must press you Governor Quirinus (NWAG). Come to a decision soon or I will have to leave and report to Legatus legionis Aemilius that you need no support and he can return the last quarter to fighting and holding back the Germans. Every second you delay another twenty Germans might slip past our patrols and join the assault on your city. Choose NOW!"

I would like to pay in gold bars with the shipment immediatly please.

BTW, Emperor, can we exterminate or enslave the jews please? They're getting annoying.

New rule- you may not be racist, or any variety of racism, or any variety of being against any religion. so no, you cannot.
And Rome would like a shipment of 300 Librae of Berytus' Tyrian Purple dye, with triple the weight in cedar wood. We are willing to pay you 20,000 denarii.

But they turned me into a newt!

I got better...

Anyway, Berytus, we'll trade you some Olive Oil, Timber, and Wine for some Tyrian Purple.

Apologies- the battle has been bad lately. However, you are probably not needed.

"Do not be so hasty to summon aid next time please or else it will be the death of me. Do you have a fresh horse I can use to return?"
