Ok, enough codes, enough strategies, enough cheats. I want to know who YOU think the best civilization is and why. Let's find out once and for all who the best of the best is. Remember, there are two O's in goose, boys.

i believe most of the civs have their strengs and weaknesses, but if i were to pick one civ to be the best it would be the persians :king:

why persia? well...
good things about persia:

-Immortals, good for early wars
-Scientific Industrious (I think thats what they are) is a good combo

and there are very few bad points, what else can be said, i think persia is the best :)

If the answer was that easy/obvious, it would have been figured out a long time ago... ;)

Personally this pick is hard because some are so good in some ways and bad in others but i think the best Civilization is either any industrious, religious, or scientific because expansionist is almost a stupid attribute and it only helps the AI because they expand faster right.:king: So actually i would pick America as mine but i do think the UU is rather stupid.

EXPANIONIST IS STUPID???????

I only keep up at monarch because of expanionist - expanionst means tech which means you can actuallly trade tech with the AI early on so you arent left behind in tech race

i started off playing the americans cause they were my favorite civ from civ2. they IMO suck in civ3 tho.

i switched to always playing the french because they were commercial/industrious. made for a pretty good game on monarch level

i switched to the persians for a long time because they were scientific/industrious. also makde for a pretty good game.

i didnt have a real good feel on how to play the other civs. then i started playing each civ for one game.

what ive found is that if you can make it to the modern era without getting your hat handed to you, it doesnt really matter what type of civ you play.

i've won with every civ on monarch level. the toughest civs in my experience are those that get their UU at the very beginning of the game - Zulu, Greek, etc.

What sets the human player apart from the A.I. is that we can choose when to use our UU to enter a golden age. you cant really use this effectively with civs that get their UUs early in the game because there's not much advantage in going into a G.A. that early, and by the time you'd lke to use them to go into a G.A. they cant beat anything in battle...

what i've found out persoannly is that, hold on to your hats, the JAPANESE are my fav because they are religious/militaristic. these traits come in extremely handy early on in the game because you can produce barracks and thus vet units very early and you can go on a rampage; you can produce temples very early and start the culture march; you can immediately switch to better forms of government without that dreaded anarchy period; your UU the Samurai comes in the Middle Ages, just when you have enough infrastructure and buildings to reap a nice reward for going into a G.A.

Thank you, Good night.

You have to give them a UU that is not useless. I suggest a fast rifleman (or musketman) , or at least a bomber unit with maximum range and more bombardment power. Either would start a Golden Age.

I would have given the Americans an Airborne Ranger unit, kind of a mix of marine and paratrooper

The one I haven't played in a while. (I like variety.)

I only played the greek to 500 AD before, so my experience with this game is very limited. But I like the sound of making barracks cheaper and temples too.

iroquois-
1) expansionist - set science to zero in the ancient era and save up enough money to upgrade tons of MW to knights...
2) 1 turn anarchy - nothing can beat that.
3) cheap religious buildings which leads to cheap science buildings.

i used to play only persia cos they are easy to fine-tune into a scientific powerhouse and the industrious attrib means it's easy to produce anything anyway.

Would you mind explaining this?

I haven't tried the Persians much for myself yet, but they always seem to become the strongest of my AI opponents...

i like the japanese cos they have
1) religous 1 turn anarchy cheap temples
2) militristic quick to get lots of elite units which means more chance of leaders cos u have so many elites running around
