Edit: Oops...rider replaces knights, doesn't it?

Rider, Samuari, War Elephant, Keshik, and Ansar replace Knights. Sipahi and Cossack replace Cavalry.

Why are Hoplite and Impi the same option? I like hoplites very much, but I can't find Impis useful.

Hoplites and Impi are the same because there are already many options in this poll and they replace the same unit (but I put Legionary and Immortal on different options because many people like one of them very much and dislike the other).

Settler. Without those guys, my games would be short and pointless.

1. Settler
2. Worker
3. Artillery

Wait. None of these are choices? :dubious:

its not on the list, but war elephant is my favourite.

Modern armour anyone? Don't they just cut through the enemy like a knife through hot butter?

I picked cavalry from the list, but mechanized infantry are my favourites.

They have a better attack than a tank's defence (or an infantry's for that matter) and a better defence than a tank's attack.

If you reach the modern age first, one option is to research computers, upgrade like crazy and then swamp your neighbour. Unlike horse units, you are basically upgrading a defensive unit to an offensive unit. Unlike tanks, you can just upgrade rather than having to carefully plan a pre-build while you are researching the necessary tech.

SLAVE, this is the one I WANT
..
And to get those Slaves I love the Mounted Warrior, strong and fast.

I am afraid Immortals are just better than modern armor as:
1. They come so early in the game
2. They can be used for almost 2 ages until cavalry was born
3. The match up between modern armor and mech. infantry really favors mech. infantry in late games.

I can't say I agree with this. Mech Infantry's only practical advantage is that it comes earlier. Modern Armour defend almost as well as Mech Infantries and have double attack. The only Mech Infantries you should be getting are from your 55-59 spt cities or from the draft.

I voted for Bomber since it is the closest to artillery which is one of the most important units on higher levels.

I am going through a preference for the modern age at the moment so as a result the Panzer is my fav (as a UU) but Modern Armour is great fun. Just like Fried Egg said they go "like a knife through hot butter"
In earlier ages I like the Knight. It is the tank of its era.

Its really strange that both UU and regular units are on the same list. BTW what civ has an "immortal" for a UU?

Swordman are a great regular unit, combining archers/spearman with a bonus to attack. Nothing can top them in the ancient times (except for ancient calvery from a zues temple), horseman can retreat when attacked but have 50% less attack and can't really defend. Their extra movement often not being used because of terrain.

cavalry
and most specifically the Ottoman Sipahi
