The best unit

One more thing:

Back on page 1, Redwolf mentioned that the US Marines are often the first ones in and the last ones out: TELL ME ABOUT IT! I live in Okinawa and they're still here...

Usually happens in my CIV wars too: I'll bribe a city that has a couple, and then I never have a reason to move them out. They just sit there, presumably harassing my virtual population and picking fights with the locals.

It's easy to like the US Marines from Canada, let me tell ya!!!

I LOVE Spies!!! because than can take out a city with out wasting any untis (only a lof of gold but that shouldn't be a Problem)

And I hate Archers they just *)&$#*%)(@

Well, it's not a original unit. But i like the Heavy Tank in the fashist moddpack.

I think that every units in the game have its own specialty and should be used accordingly to what you need to do. For example, if your civ is expanded over several isles boats and carriers would be more important, etc.
I often use artillery combined with alpine troops, and armors to take over cleaned cities.
Warriors are useful for discovering the first hut (which often gives you a mercenary) and then you disband the warrior!!

Well, I agree with Jonas, it could be a good topic for poll.

Yes, Just some common sense:
Spy, it's always my motivation to get Communism. Then i can know the opponent city's situation with no cost. Explore the opponent's terrain, etc. For almost each kind of thing it can do.

engineer, for its 2 moves.

Howitzer, for its the best siege weapon, or next to veteran spy.

settler, which is the essential units, the favorate of those who use ICS.

dipolomat in raging horde games. When u can't defence, bribe.

I seem to constantly be building phalanx and pikeman, prefere to build with barracks improvment

After giving the matter careful consideration (all of ten seconds), I guess I like the armor/mech. infantry combo the best, as far as military units go. I roll my tanks into enemy cities, knock out their pitiful defenses (usually a couple of musketeers), run the mechs in as defense, and move on to the next target.

I also have to concur with the idea of the eminent utility of engineers. You just can't get enough of them; they're all-purpose units.

My personal most hated military unit is partisans. Toward the end of my games, they invariably start popping up in barbarian droves and wreck my nice farmland and transcontinental railways, before my tanks can knock them out, and my engineers have to connect things all over again. I guess I need to start building more cities...

They're cheap to bribe though - even the AI ones coming out from a captured city that aren't from a democracy - and then you can save your tanks for better stuff.

Dips by far! Reasons:

1 -> how many of us actually get to the late game playing multi?
2 -> cost effective (no support) great to use to explore early game.
3 -> the power of an embassy is not quantitative..."knowledge is power" beyond words
4 -> i hate barbs but always play raging cus I am crazy. Plus I love to buy em off. <IMG SRC="http://forums.civfanatics.com/ubb/smile.gif" border=0>
5 -> they're just kewl!

First I link them up with engineers, then my howitzers crush them, then my mechs surround their city so they dont get many partisans, then I take it and defend it with mechs. I always scout out my attacks in advance with spies for maximum efficientcy.

WANDERING NOMADS ARE MY FAVOURITE UNITS!!! YAY

But in all seriousness, I LOVE Engineers, You should see one of the games ive got going at the moment, every city has an engineer and in some cases (about half) they have 2 each!!! call me crazy, but they get things done!!

Spies...Because they offer such a wide range of utility, high movement rate (mobility is my #1 priority when building an army), they ignore ZOC & lastly they can see two spaces away.

totallly agree with you. And they're also the most terrible weapon (more than nukes) and my favourite units. They can buy enemy cities...

I'd have to say my favorite is the Carrier basically because I love them personally because they're immense and carry 90 aircraft. The best, most useful unit in the game, I think, is Armor. It can attack really great, better than an AEGIS Cruiser, defend about the same as a Mech. Inf., and movement is 3, but with the added effect of roads and RR, it's even better. It does have a high price, but it's worth it.

Nodoubt about it the Armor, Howitzer and Battleship combo is my fav and best one in the game. In the earlier game ,I prefer the Dragoon or cavalry units
