Likely because he will be forced to read it for class. When I was
in high school, I was automatically prejudiced against a book I
was forced to read for class. And God knows that prejudice was
justified in some cases (esp. Wuthering Heights). But 1984, on the
other hand, was compelling, and still the most frightening book I've
ever read.
Yes, quite odd. I suppose such a reaction could occur when you have someone who is a sociopath by nature. The person would have a hard time identifying with his world, and reading Catcher, a book with a main character who shares many of his tendancies, would cause the person to become obsessed with the book and give him motivation to emulate Holden, and take action where Holden uses only words.
