In the spirit of Aeson's "Oh So Cold (of the map generator)" I give a savegame start from a recent game I started. All I did was build my city, use my scout to explore, and I discovered my island.

You'll need PTW to play, v1.04. The civ is the Mongols, Monarch level, completely random map. I didn't select the Mongols, although they will add to the challenge (see the thread about them to understand why). This is what it threw at me, and I'll play along with you. The reward for victory is...well you'll be greatly congratulated if you can win. Any victory condition is open.

(Mods: If this is the wrong forum, feel free to move it!)

Here is the map:

Sorry, messed up. Here is the map, and the save:

Note: Ignore the fact that the worker built a road already, and is now building a mine. Considering the, uh, horrible conditions, I didn't know what to build, so I just built something randomly. Without fresh water, I figured I'd road everything, then I decided to just mine the hills. Good luck!

And the save:

What's that word I'm looking for? When somebody enjoys pain? :)

Think I'll pass on this challenge. I would have more fun going into a biker bar and telling them they are all panzies and getting the crap beat out of me.

Masochistic :)

As for the game, well... There is really no chance at all for victory, not even for the best players of Civ.

Actually, I prefer schadenfreude. Please post regular updates of your trials and tribulations...

Me? A masochist? ;)

I doubt I'll be able to win, someone get Aeson in here, he'll beat it. This is literally a desert island. My hopes are that I can conquer my nearest neighbor and move my capital there. Of course, that will be hard, considering how tough it will be to make units in desert...

C'mon, don't let me do it alone! Who's with me!?!?! :D

Good luck CG. Aeson was incredible, going from that little ice island, moving his capitals and conquering so much more. That all on diety.

I may try this, but don't got PTW. I'll just use original Civ instead.

Maybe.....

CG,

I'll have to weigh in on the side of some reason here and say you need to master some minimum skills before you start majoring in Marquis de Sade style events.

Why not play a GOTM of a Tournament game until you can at least begin to see how some of the features of the game work?

There is some cool stuff built into the game (along with all the "Oops"). Everything does not have to be a circus to be fun.

How many additional post counts did this thread gain you today?

Cracker, I've just recently returned to the forum from a leave of absence, and I must say, you have become a bitter one. I've only seen two of your posts since, and both of them were derogetory. You need to lighten up and stop telling everybody that they're inferior. Believe it or not, some of us actually know how to play the game.

Along with CIV3 generator's obsession with stinky, smelly jungle.

This map is a sick joke created by CIV3...!
You can hear the dark gods' mocking laughter!!!

I found this post pointlessly insulting, cracker. What knowledge do you have of my skills? I decided to share this horrible start with the rest of us here at CFC; if you don't wish to participate, don't. Anyway, since you consider me to be so terrible at civ, and you so great, why don't you give this start a whirl, O Master? :p

Anyway, I realized that very few of my cities on this island will be able to grow past size two. Luckily I have those whales, but I'll need a temple to get to them, so this is going to be very tough. Hopefully I'll have Iron in these mountains, and maybe a nice fertile island next to me. My first goal is moving my capital, ASAP. We'll see how this turns out.

Come on, people, just take the challenge! You don't have to win, because I'm pretty sure I won't!

Oh, and cracker: I consider these challenges fun, and I play video games to have fun. Your only goal in being at this forum seems to be to show your skills to everyone. If you like doing that so much, why not pick up this save and show us your skills? :p :)

CG

EDIT: (I won't make this another post, just to please cracker :p) I see one person downloaded it. Will the brave soul please step foward? :D

I would play, I really would. It looks very challenging (I think I'd consider anybody who got off the island very talented), and I would play, except I don't have PTW.

I'll take it for a test drive ;) even though Monarch might be a tad too hard for my skill level...haha

But anyhow, which graphic mod are you using? At a glance I thought the whales were fishes.

Good DaDoo, I wondered who took up the Gauntlet. Its Snoopy's 4.0, BTW. I'm going to play now, I'll probably play until I have map making, then I'll report back. :)

Wow, that's a pretty pathetic island! Maybe you'll get lucky and have salpeter in all that desert! I might give it a whirl, although I'm not too good a monarch.

I believe I was the first to download it. Monarch level, on pretty much any start, should be pretty beatable. I'm not sure I'll have time to give it a whirl, but I was thinking I might look at it...depends on how the other games I have going strike me....

We have four islands on our mainland. I could have fit five, or even six, but I realized that our main food tiles will be hills ( ), so I decided to maximize our city placement so we can get as many hills in each city as possible. We only have two cities that can reach size three, our capital and the one in the north by the whales. The rest are stuck at size two. Early suicide runs with our galleys revealed that there are possibly islands to the southeast and the northwest. I guess this because there are finger-like projections of sea, which hopefully connect us to another island. Unfortunately suicide runs failed to reveal any other land. This makes building the Great Lighthouse imperitive, but the chances are high that we won't be able to. Three wonders have been built so far by the AI, and I fear the GL could be taken any minute now. It will take eons to build the GL anyway; have you ever tried to build a wonder with a size three city, production of 4? If we don't get the GL, I'll just keep on doing suicide runs until the RNG decides to be favorable on me and allow my galleys to spend more than one turn in sea. I've done it before (in one game, I've had a galley last 4 turns in the sea), but the prospects are grim. If there are no islands within range, and we fail to get the GL...

Be back later to report some more.

CG

Well, I played to 250AD. we have both horses AND iron on this island. The AI is probably already in the late middle ages by now though :( . At least harbors can get us to size 6. The galleys will search for a new island where we will look for a weak civ and hopefully conquer some decent land.
