I decided, having put it my orders for Spring 1902 a whole 5 days early that I would mention how myself and Magnus are getting on in this tournament.

It is called the "Tournament of Scoundrels" which is a suitable title considering that reprobates such as Magnus and myself are there and is held at Redscape where we civdippers have some had some success before (see older threads).

I am in the Garnet game, playing as Austria and having a rather brutal time of it, however at least I've induced a vast amount of chaos in the proceedings and when the dust settles I hope to have a firm grasp on my throne!

Well, Magnus was lucky not to be drawn in game "Garnet" like me and is instead playing in game "Emerald" as Germany :)

Attached are link to maps showing his progress:

For some reason they are behind in game terms...

In Emerald there is an interesting A-I alliance and G (me) and E have decided to take on F. R&T are having a rough time of it. We have completed 2 years at present. I will post a map of Winter 02 shortly.

The continuing progress or otherwise of the Austrian with no friends :D

KoC, an interesting game. Almost every player seems rather reckless. Do you have any alliances?

Hell, no. At best we have "working relationships" and outright hostility.

I may be in a rather unfriendly position, but I know the Russian is in a far worse one. Had he not been so silly as to lie continuously to me and invade Budapest, he'd not be in such a mess as Germany and Turkey will do for him pretty soon.

What's your game plan, then?

That would be telling, but ultimately it is to make the Italians suffer for being good at this game.

Do you fear your opponents will search for information regarding your plans on this site?

I fear no-one, I'll fight anyone and if I lose, I'll lose, if it is real life, it is a good thing that I kinda like being beaten up :D

It wouldn't be a good idea to state my intented plan of operation for the World to see, if nothing else, simply because it may not come to pass. Like Monty, I love to make out all went according to my grand design :)

Its just that in sorting through past Civdip games doing some preliminary research on the playing styles of some of my fellow civdippers in Broken Resolutions, I witnessed some of your performances. They were unerringly quite deft. You don't seem to be doing as well in this game, sort of flailing about wildly. I wondered at this; if perhaps it was an interesting strategy, or a plan gone wrong, or. . . or what.

Which civdip games you been looking at?

In my first solo win, it looked like the dirt was being piled upon my coffin with English, German and Italian pouring down upon me.

As an Austrian in a game where most of the powers have been entirely unreliable I have been lashing out as initiatives are built, broken and then I try to make the best of it. In my previous games I had someone willing to do business with, here this has not been the case and so I've had to lash out at the imaginary attacks I see being setup against me.

In the case of the German campaign, it was because I'd patched up things with the Italians and the door appeared closed, the German hadn't spoken to me and the Russian appeared to be sobering up and so I decided to hurt the German and at worst have a build in case of a Russian stab and slow the German down and at best have 2 builds from which I could expand aggressively.

You can't achieve the impossible in diplomacy, only as much as people and your resources will allow.

Now, if I'm missing a gameplan, it is because thus far I have decided not to destroy Turkey ;)

Well, my interest is certainly piqued. Could you continue providing occasional updates?

As you can see, there is an unusual A-I going on - Russia also failed to submit a build this turn...

Yea, its quite entertaining. Austria would have ahd a tri-build if not for Italy taking Trieste in Fall 01 which we realized wasn't a stab at all after he didn't build in Venice the following winter. I guess this is one way of ensuring Austria will not build a navy - talk about levels of trust, Italy was in Vienna in the Spring, I wonder where A Galicia ends up - I hope not Silesia! :crazyeye:

I am pretty curious. . . I don't see the Austro-Italian game plan. Where is that wandering Italian going? Does it actually plan to hold territory that far away? And it seems like Greece would have been a natural Italian center, yet the Austrians have garrisoned it.

Spring 1903

Well, in summary...militarily I didn't go anywhere so my position worsens. Diplomatically my position has much improved and so I should have more hope of assistance. Also, at least one power acted according to my wishes...in at least action, but not the form.

Two nations had they followed my advise to the letter would be in FAR stronger positions...unfortunantly they probably don't like taking advise from an Austrian in a relatively poor position, ignoring the fact that the advise itself is extremely good. In both cases these nations will pay the penalty in the Fall as their enemies take advantage, but my stock will rise.

Magnus in the game "Emerald" seems to be doing extremely well and I congratulate him on that...a particularly nice move to threaten so much Austro-Italian territory!

Brest is doomed if England attacks, Venice and Sweden are also open to Germany, though if you take Sweden you'll want England to move N.Sea - Norway most likely.

I envy you position now, it looked dangerous in Winter 1902.

I can't stand A-I alliances. I'm currently playing a game at the Diplomatic Pouch where my France has been victimised for the entire game by an Italy-Austria relationship I can only describe as puppet to master. The result has been a constant attack from the south, as well as a locked alliance structure. My English ally went from two centres to ten while I stagnated, simply because I faced attack by all Italian units every single turn. Luckily I'm sitting in Rome now.
