The Coefficient of sliding friction....

There should be the option of railroad (iron, coal) or highway (rubber, oil) as a long range transport system. Railroad IMO should be limited to 15 squares/move and highways to 10 squares/move, but highway would be quicker to build than railroad because the terrain doesn't have to be so flat.
I like this idea (the first part, anyway). I don't have any problem with the infinite-move of rails, but it would be a nice touch to have two different transportation options, requiring different resources. It would even be okay if they were exactly the same: essentially, Motorized Transportation would allow you to build RRs even if you didn't have iron & coal, as long as you had rubber & oil instead (they wouldn't really be RRs, they'd be highways). Of course, different graphics would also be a nice touch, but whatever.

The problem with x squares/movement point is that cavalry, tanks, etc. do not move any faster than guys with stone axes when then are on a train! The train does all of the moving, the unit sits in the boxcars (or whatever) and goes for a ride. Railroads, IMHO, must reflect that!

That is why I would suggest trains (i.e. the train unit above). Not only that, but techs could make the trains go faster and faster (for instance 20mp initially, 30 when industrialization, 40 when refining, etc.)
