 Oh, th humanities:cry: A rich, famous baseball player died in an airplane crash:cry: What a tragedy:cry: [/slashing wrists] Oh and somebody else died too, but as we were saying, Oh Corey! Why were you taken from us???

Barely a word has been said about the flight instructor who died right next to him. Why isnt that persons death a tragedy too? It only matters when famous people die? What we should do then is ship out all our celebrities to Darfur and let them get hunted down by the Janjaweed, so maybe something will be done about it.

janjaweed? you watch 60 minutes!

kinda reminds me of the javas. in starwars.

anyways, why didnt the guy and the instructor try to glide the plane to somewhere with less buildings? they couldve killed alot of people.

I never heard about this guy until you mentioned him, and I'll thank you not to give him more publicity.

Remember Aaliya, or however it's spelled? Rotten.com put it best when it said, "Aaliya and a bunch of miscellaneous unfamous people died in a plane crash."

i found that crash to be pretty ironic, apparently aliyaa and her entourage had too much luggage, the pilot said the plane was too heavy to take off with all her stuff onboard, but she wouldnt have any of it. she gave him a hard time and finally the pilot said fine.

the moral of that story is, ladies, you dont need everything you ever owned in the way of clothing and make up for a 2 day trip. learn to travel lightly and spare your boyfriend/husband much aggrivation, it might even end up saving your life. :D

To add to this celebrity nonsense, the news occasionally stated that 3-4 people may of died, but they never said anything else just went back to the pitcher

Maybe the pilot crashed on purpose out of spite.

I for one, would have switched the channel after ~5 minutes if it had just been a regular person.

I live in New York, and am a yankee fan, so I watched for longer, because it was Corey Lidle and I was pissed we had lost a pitcher

I think thats your answer right there, talking about Corey Lidle = better ratings because many people know who he is.

It was also his plane, registered in his name. If it had been another persons plane i'm sure that person would have been talked about a lot as well, especially for the first several hours when thats all they knew about the people, that the plane was registered to Corey Lidle.

It was a major story because it happened in New York City, where there is a ton of media assets residing and it sounded similar to the 9/11. It was originally reported on that day that a small general avaition plane crashed. It was television photogenic, it was easily accessible, and it happened during the prime of a news day cycle.

I think they focused on Cory L because he was a known entity and it was unlikely terrorism as a result. Plus, New York thinks of itself quite highly and if affects them, it is highly newsworthy.

Plus he was not that good of a pitcher.

:( The guy just died. Such comments are just insensitive and actually quite rude all things considered. Lets give a little respect to the dead, ok?

That being said, I am not that great a baseball fan, so I had no idea who this guy was. My point was unless you are a baseball fan, or live in New York, he probably wasnt that big of a celebrity.

Again...lets not insult people who have just died tragically and unexpectedly. Thats never nice.

I'm a Yankee's fan, and I have nothing against the guy, but death is a part of life. It isn't like celebrities are suppose to be immortal. Things happen, so lets get on with our lives.

I totally agree. Yes, the media go overboard when something happens to a celebrity. But that's no reason to be as callous as some of the posts here have been.

I remember when Princess Di died, Mother Teresa died around the same time and I didn't find out about it till almost 2 months later.

There's always some A-hole that's doing something stupid, and ruins aviation for everyone else. FAA regs are written in blood, and practically all of them due to pilot negligence. And every time... general aviation gets tighened up just a little more, and more - taking away some freedom from the rest of us and making things more of a hassle.

Thanks.
