The Corvid Nation
---
The Book of Kaida II Line 205
The emperor stepped down his golden throne to the Validites and said unto them, "Our word comes from the Divine Danielle Herself! What you speak is sacrilege and thus you and your people must be put to death." And so the emperor slashed the throat of the heathen emissary.
----
The emissaries cowered fearfully in the presence of the mad emperor towering over the dying emissary. With his sword still bloodied, he pointed her blade at the fearful gathering.
"Bring word to your leaders that the Holy City will not be bought out like a harlot. This is the holy city of all Corvid and cannot be bought with material trinkets! NOW GET OUT!"
The Holy City went into full gear preparing for war. Rallies were held, industry went into peak capacity, every able bodied Corvid was conscripted into the Imperial Academies.
Soon enough, a vast army was ready to lay waste to any that would oppose the Emperor's Will.
The first target was the city responsible for even proposing a buyout of the Holy City. Although small, it was better in the eyes of the emperor to kill the baby before it grew into an adult Humorless Baxtar.
The Imperial armies rolled towards the city with the Emperor at the helm of the advance.
There were no negotiations. The Emperor screeched out the order to lay waste to the city.
The city hardly gave any resistance and surrendered to the Emperor in person.
However another reason that the Emperor invaded this city was it's status as a port city, allowing the Corvid nation access to the oceans from the landlocked capital and furthering the Empires influence.
However there were still the other cities that backed the proposal. The Emperor would be more forgiving to them.
"Chancellor Roden! You insulted me with your offer!" the Emperor called out, "However I don't wish to waste precious money on artillery shells so I shall me merciful! Come out and kiss my ring and I shall make sure you live the rest of your life as my court jester!"
The Chancellor came out, overweight and barely able to walk after consuming enough to feed his starving citizens 2 fold, "We don't have to be enemies you know! We have anything you could indulge in! I think 'His Majesty' would prefer the company of some of our finest young boys! Barely hatchlings, might I add!" performing a mocking bow before struggling to regain his balance with the help of his starved servants.
The Emperor's eyes widened with rage at the insinuation, spinning around and gripping the firing pin tightly, "FIRE!" he screamed.
The city fell easily to the Emperors will and he prepared a special punishment for the Chancellor, mutilating him until he was unrecognizable to any creature but keeping him alive on display in his throne room until he died of infection 5 months later.
The final threat to the Holy City was the last independent city on the continent. With territory on either end that could threaten access to the Turin Sea, it was decided to act immediately.
"President Pakot! Come out and kiss my ring!" he hollered. Several minutes passed but no one showed up.
"FIRE!" he screamed back at the artillery, all firing in unison.
After capturing the city, one of the soldiers discovered a hidden bunker that contained strange technology.
"Witchcraft!" the soldiers cried out. The Emperor raised his hand to still his soldiers, "Please, my brothers. This is only complicated engineering that can mimic flight. Bring it into the Black Wing Labs for further investigation."
With the continent in complete control of the Emperor, scouts moved to develop the regions abandoned by the old cities.
The scout roamed around the region, noting the familiarity of the volcano for some reason.
However the scout stumbled upon an unusual ruin.
----------
SCOUT LOG: 204.3
Encountered a strange ruin in the new territory. Doesn't look like an enemy ship. There are signs of age but they would mean that this wreak has been here for thousands of years.
Notice strange mark on the front. Something used to be bolted on the front. Shaped like the Plaque of Domiel.
Just opened what looks like the cockpit. Strange giant skeletons inside. Not any creature I've encountered. Knee's bend forward, teeth instead of a beak, eyes positioned forward. They seem to be wrapped in some kind of dull fabric. Looked almost shiny at one point.
----------
Suddenly the scout heard a terrifying roar outside. Between the tree's, he saw a monster.
The army mobilized as soon as they recieved the scouts frantic call. Under the Janus Act of 3021A, the army was obligated to destroy any creature large enough to threaten a city.
It was a hard battle, with numerous units losing their lives to the monsters attacks.
Soon the monster was defeated, at the cost of 1/4th of the entire standing army of the Empire.
As the medics tended to the wounded and a camp was set up, the Emperor walked to the ruins and gazing upon the empty area where the Plaque of Domiel once was bolted on. Summoning a soldier to his side, he whispered urgently to him.
"I want this entire region cordoned off. Relocate any villagers that are in the area, saying there's a plague spreading. Wipe out any village that has a villager refusing to leave, saying that the village was destroyed by the plague. I don't want this discovery to come out ever least it weaken the government legitimacy."
Years later, the Emperor died and, in an unprecedented and unusual act, anointed his young daughter Kaida XIV as his successor. There had never been an Empress in the history of the Empire but all concerns were swept away after she lead a national 10 year plan that saw the Corvid nation turn from an agricultural society with basic technology to a highly urbanized society with the highest technology on the planet.
Looking down from the Imperial Capitol Tower, the Empress gazed upon the sunset through the skyscrapers and commuter air traffic.
"Your Grace," General Turna quietly whispered, "I think we've extracted as much technology from the UFO as we can. Perhaps it's time we tell the people about the discovery."
The Empress kept her gaze, her claws rhythmically tapping the concrete balcony railing.
"All in good time, General. The people aren't ready for this yet. None of us are." she half turned to look at the general. "It's not everyday we're given solid proof that our entire religion was essentially a lie. But we cannot tell them now. Not when it was our religion that was the driving force of our entire evolution.
"The Prophet Domiel fought the tribes on the Tar'Kress Plains, my father fought the surrounding cities, all because it was our religion that drove them. It wasn't religion itself that accomplished all that, but it was the inspiration, and that can mean all the difference in the world. No, I think we'll keep up appearances for the peoples sake but we'll covertly introduce the idea that we were the escaped science experiments of Danielle Barkowski PhD onboard the USS Endeavor piloted by Captain David Scott.
"Now, my love, come comfort me... My heart is heavy all of a sudden..."
