I was watching the History Channel and a commerical came on that mentioned something about a Hungarian (I believe) Countess that killed and bathed in the blood of hundreds of virgins. I knew of something like this in a computer game I used to play (kudos to whomever guesses which one :goodjob: ), but I never knew it was based on an actual person.

I was wondering if anyone here could further enlighten me on this topic.

Diablo 2 of course. :p If you want i'll give you the exact quote.

 When I first saw this thread, with last post by HC, I thought it was about Count Dracula's wife or something like that...

And back on topic, I've heard of Elizabeth Bathory, but never knew that she did this kind of things. :shake:

Actually i have heard her being called plenty of times "Countess Dracula". :)

Anyway here's the Diablo 2 quote:
"...And so it came to pass that the Countess, who once bathed in the
rejuvenating blood of a hundred virgins, was buried alive. And her castle in
which so many cruel deeds took place fell rapidly to ruin. Rising over the
buried dungeons in that god-forsaken wilderness, a solitary tower, like some
monument to Evil, is all that remains.

The Countess's fortune was believed to be divided among the clergy, although
some say that more remains unfound, still buried alongside the rotting skulls
that bear mute witness to the inhumanity of the human creature."

Yes, there was even a Hammer movie (they're the ones who made the Christopher Lee Dracula films) made about her, with that exact title IIRC.

And I remember the Diablo quote fondly... makes me want to reinstall it ASAP!

I know the quote HC. I have all but one of the Diablo games (I believe I am missing Hellfire, the Expansion Pack for Diablo 1).

I've got my Diablo 2 addiction out of me. I currently have no desire to play. I used to play a lot when I was younger, I once spent most of a day on Battle.net playing Diablo 1. Man were there millions of trainers, hackers, and all around cheaters in that game. I don't think I knew one legit person. Everyone had the Godly Plate of the Whale or something and I think it was the Obsidian Ring of the Gods. Could be wrong, but it was something along those lines. But man I loved that Apocalypse spell, I got a hacked staff, that had like 1000 charges of that, and when you're standing next to Diablo's chamber cast it about twenty times in 3 seconds. The whole room bursts into flames, as it creates a fireball right on top of each enemy in your line of sight or something. But even that I have no desire to play anymore.
