The Crazed Vikings

Alright, I'll be gone most of tommorow, but I'll be able to play my turn tommorow evening probably. (9 estish)

pre-turn

...

turn 1 510bc

drop sci to 50% we don't want a negative cash flow.

turn 2 490bc

Haried founded

turn 3 470bc

bergen begins sett

turn 4 450bc

...

turn 5 410bc

...

turn 6 390bc

bergen grows and riots, set lux to 20% and sci to 40

turn 7 370bc

realise we have no harbors, disbanding curragh's since we can't upgrade them and they are costing us money.

turn 8 350bc

after the settler is done in bergen, drop lux and raise sci, but not to a negative cash flow.

we need more workers for improving our cities. the more roads and mines we have the faster we can build and the more money we can earn. Bergen's growth will help in getting workers out.

when we start studying Inv, we need to start a pre-build for Leo's! We want to have the workshop done as close to the turn we learn Inv as possible, this will cut our upgrades in half, and from Archer to 'Zerk, we will definately want that.

I just played 8 turns, now the turns should be on the right track, all you have to do is check the victory status screen(F8) and it will tell you what turn it is, it is currently turn 110.

I didn't mean I got the save. I meant I got that you finished, that it was my turn, and that I would play tonight.

Okay! Here it is.

350 Bc: Trondheim finished Galley, production set to Library.
Oslo finished Archer, Production set to Harbor.

330 Bc: Nothing significant:

310 Bc: Aztecs threatened us for Polytheism. I refused,
we are now at War with the Aztecs.

290 Bc: Traded Republic and 15 gold to Americans for
Monotheism. Loaded a few Units to go on their way to
Aztec territory.

270 Bc: Bergen Makes Settler, Production set to Harbor.
Stockholm makes Galley, Production also set to Harbor.
Stavenger makes Galley, Production also set to Harbor.
Odense makes Barracks, Production also set to Harbor.

250 Bc: No significance.

230 Bc: Aarhus makes Barracks, Production set to Archer.

210 Bc: Reykjavik finishes Archer, Production set to Archer.

190 Bc: Birka finishes Galley, Production set to Harbor.
Molde founded, Production set to Harbor.

170 Bc: Unloaded 4 Archers onto other continent to take an Aztec City, we can use the high ground to our advantage when we attack. Completed Great Lighthouse in Copenhagen! Production set to Harbor.

Turn at 150 Bc.

I think we can do good on the war with the Aztecs, I am in the process of having more archers sent, our squad of four is on pace to take an Aztec City.

I chose to make those Harbors so much because of the bonus Food, most of those cities could definately use it more than anything else.

Archers to attack??? We can ONLY use 'Zerks to attack other civs! Load the Archers back on the boat and bring them home. Ignore the Aztec war, they won't reach us or cause us any threats at all. Go in and get a civ on their cont to go to war with them, and let them fight amonst themselves.

Gr... Alright, well I never did attack, they are just loaded on the hills three tiles from the town. We could use them to go near the town, and try to sue for peace.

The rules were a bit unclear I think, we could not declare war before we got barbs, but war could be declared on us, so I guess we are supposed to let them attack us then, and not fight back? Plus, I heard attacking others with archers/warriors many times throughout this...

I think we need eddfire to clarify everything? :confused:

I've got it, will play once Eddfire clarifies.

Ok people, as clearly stated on the first page:

1. We CAN NOT DECLARE WAR UNTIL WE HAVE RESEARCHED INVENTION (ignore the current war with the Aztecs)

2.ONCE WE HAVE INVENTION, WE CAN ONLY ATTACK OTHER CIVS WITH BEZERKERS AND ARTILLARY (plus naval units)

3.ONCE WE HAVE INVENTION, WE MUST ALWAYS BE AT WAR WITH ONE PERSON

Well i thought the diretions were clear (probably cause i wrote them), no biggie that you didnt, just glad you didnt attack ;)

Ok, I'll pull those archers back home then. Look for the save sometime later today.

Turn Log:

No IBT

Turn 1 (150 B.C.)

I don't know who orginally had always renegotiate deals off, but that saves a lot of headaches if it is left on. Also, please remember NOT to leave units on GOTO's that extend beyond your turns, most of our galley's were. I change archer builds to spears since I want to have at least some defense
capability in the off chance that a landing occurs. I also turn lux down to 10% since that's all we need to keep people happy, and it also gets us out of negative research.

Turn 2 (130 B.C.)

Sign peace with Aztecs for 75 gold.

Turn 3 (110 B.C.)

Stockholm harbor>Spear

Turn 4 (90 B.C.)

Iron is connected, so I upgrade our 3 spears to pikes. I also have to turn lux back up, so I turn science down so that we can keep building up cash. [rant]Why are we mining non-bonus grasslands, especially around cities that have hills avaliable to them? If we irrigate the grasslands the cities will be able to work the hills and get additional shields.[/rant]

Turn 5 (70 B.C.)

Nada

Turn 6 (50 B.C.)

Trondheim Library>Harbor
Bergen Harbor>Pike
Copenhagen Harbor>Pike

Turn 7 (30 B.C.)

Oslo Harbor>Archer

Turn 8 (10 B.C.)

Reykjavik Pike>Pike
Change Oslo to Pike since we are going to need 9 more Pike's than we have right now

Turn 9 (10 A.D.)

Maya demands Monotheism, I tell him to shove it, and he backs off.

Turn 10 (30 A.D.)

Copenhagen Pike>Pike

Notes to next player:

Engineering due in 15. Please start correcting the mined non-bonus grassland problem, we need to pay closer attention to MM'ing. Also, I assume that we aren't planning on fighting NOW, OW, or AW in Republic, so we better consider a switch to either Monarchy or Feudalism at some point, though probably not for another 40-50 turns. No pics, not much changed in the world.

The Save

dalgo up, me on deck

Sorry bout that, I think I was in the process of moving the galleys back, got in a hurry, and left them.

Sheesh, I'm just screwing it up a lot aren't I?

Regarding our variant rules. How would we handle a hostile landing on our island before Invention? Can we attack with archers or do they have to just sit at home and support our pikes?

Pre-Turn: Have a look over our rather less than impressive civilization. We are currently running sixth on score, at Monarch. We have just 6 workers for 12 towns. Only one town (Bergen) has a granary, none has a market, and only two have any culture. On the plus side we do have the Lighthouse and are second equal on tech. I’d like to start a pre-build for Leonardo but can’t see where we could get 600 shields. Our most productive town is Copenhagen at 10 spt but it can’t grow without an aqueduct. Also we would only get the Leonardo discount for one round of military upgrade (from archers to berserks), as we will not be going on to build guerrilla, cavalry etc.

Change Molde to worker (lose 1 shield) and change Bergen to settler. Hit Enter.

IBT – Trondheim: Harbour => Market
Stavanger: Harbour => Worker
Odense: Harbour => Worker
Molde: Worker => Harbour

Turn 1 50 AD: Trade Monotheism to Inca for Monarchy and 75 gold. Four other civs already know Mono and the gold will come in handy.

IBT – Iroquois and Persia are now at peace.
Stockholm: Pikeman => Library
Aarhus: Pikeman => Market
Hareid: Settler => Harbour

Turn 2 70 AD: Settler heads north.

IBT – Copenhagen: Pikeman => Market

Turn 3 90 AD: Move some Pikes around. We have 8 with 2 more under construction. That still leaves us a couple short but for the moment I think infrastructure is more critical. I’ll defend the southern towns, which is where any attack would come from.
Birka looks to be in the wrong spot to me, it’s a coastal town but only has access to one sea tile and that is needed by Stockholm. I could change the harbour build to a settler this turn to move it, except that Birka already has barracks.

IBT – Birka: Harbour => Worker

Turn 4 110 AD: No trades available. If the Maya would only build a harbour we could trade lux with them. The Aztecs have built on the island to our SE.

IBT – Reykjavik: Pikeman => Market
Odessa: Worker => Worker

Turn 5 130 AD: Alesund built on the northern tip, which brings the game forest into play. The Aztecs are the last civ to reach the Middle Ages.

IBT – Bergen: Settler => Library
Stavanger: Worker => Library

Turn 6 150 BC: Settler heads south. That will complete our local building program. I have to reduce our science to 20% as the deficit had reached -13gpt. I can’t lower lux, as it would affect too many towns. Our army support cost is 46 gpt. In hindsight we perhaps should have built up infrastructure first and waited until we were closer to Invention before starting on our archers.

Turn 7 170 BC: nothing

Turn 8 190 BC: MM Oslo to get Pike in 1.

IBT – Oslo: Pikeman => Library
Birka: Worker => Library

Turn 9 210 BC: nothing

Turn 10 230 BC: Bodo built. We finally have some action on the trading screen. Persia researched Chivalry and traded it to the Iroquois for Engineering (which just got cheaper to research of course).

Also we can now trade lux with two civs. The Aztecs built a harbour in Calixt.… and the Maya must also have a harbour somewhere although I can’t see it. The Maya will trade their spice for our incense if we sweeten the pot with 10 gold. However the best deal is with the Aztecs who will give us both spice and dye (and their 2 gold) for incense and Monarchy :) . I will leave the dealing to the next player. I would guess with those two extra lux we can probably get Engineering in 1 if we take a short term hit to our gpt.

We are still low on workers. Hareid will have plenty of food when the harbour is built and should start producing workers. I have avoided building military units but if we want to start increasing our archer stocks now there are several towns that could be switched.
