The Fall of Rome NES:

The year is 200 AD. The Roman Empire is at it’s peak, but what goes up must come down. You are one of many tribes trying to gain dominance over all the others.

Wealth:
Equivalent to credits/bank in other neses wealth is used as a testament to your greatness. Wealth is used to buy everything, from army and navy to houses and plumbing. Wealth is made in numbers instead of words this so it is easier to keep track of and can use it much better. The only way to gain Wealth is to tax, raid or conquer and gain spoils.

Army:
Your army is the second most important thing to a civilization next to wealth. Using it to conquer or defend is your discretion. Army is also done in numbers so it is also easier to keep track of.

Navy:
Your navy is not as important as other categories but it is necessary to transport troops and supplies across waters. It’s also done in numbers. Every 1 navy can transport 2 army.

Upkeep:
Each army has a 1 wealth upkeep and each navy a 2 wealth upkeep. If you want to make money and expand you need to keep your income above your upkeep, otherwise armies will disband.

Living Standards:
Living standards are important and is like culture. You need it to stay up before people decide to go live in Rome or other tribes. You also want it to draw people to you. It’s also numbers. Building up Living Standards also increase taxes.

Tax:
You gain 5 wealth per turn from taxes. You need to increase taxes by building cities and Living Standards.

Cities:
Cities increase your tax +10. Captured cities only bring +5 tax for 3 turns. These are the larger blocks on the map.

Raids:
Another way to gain money besides taxes is to raid enemy cities. You will have to successfully raid and return from a city to gain wealth. Raiding a city is also a good way to cut off enemy income as it stops taxes for that city.

Forts
A Rome only. These are smaller blocks on the map. Forts help protect against enemy invasion and strengthens Roman defenses. Forts are hard to pierce, especially lines of them but massive amounts of troops can run them over quickly. Once forts are conquered they are turned into wealth. Forts also help defend from raids. Forts also have a 5 wealth upkeep so they are expensive for Rome to maintain. Forts cost 5 for Rome to build.

COSTS:
Everything costs wealth. Here is a conversion table. Some things below isn’t wealth but it’s still conversion.

1 Army: 2 Wealth, 1 per turn
1 Navy: 4 Wealth, 2 per turn
1 Living Standard: 3 Wealth
City: 25 Wealth

3 Living Standards: +3 Tax
Raid: +2 wealth per army that survives
