Ah, somehow it's reassuring to know that other civ players are struggling with the same addiction/affliction that I'm stuck with
My girlfriend often shakes her head in disbelief when I'm playing, wondering why on earth I can waste my time with such rubbish. I then try and explain to her but that's an uphill battle and a lost cause from the start...
"But it's just for relaxation! It doesn't mean anything (I don't even bother trying to explain the game mechanics). It's just like you sitting back and reading a book for the same reasons..." I say. But, I have repeated points to the same effect hundreds of times before and know that this time it won't be any different. She just shakes her head and leaves me be. At least now she does that much. Before she would not let me off the hook
. But the fact that she leaves me to my own devices as far as gaming is concerned I have come to interpret as silent consent to me playing the game
.
We all have our little idiocyncracies - nobody's perfect, it's a matter of whether you're perfect for each other.
So, she reads her books and I play civ in peace, both accepting the fact that there are more important things in live to get excited about

Cheers, thx for your replies
