The fishing boat spy/error

BtS prince continents had two land masses close enough for the fishing boat to skip between while had open boarders. A bit later on AI closes baorders but as the boat was over the other side of the continent and had no-where to go it was just left where it was and could run around at will seeing into all the coastal cities ready for my invasion.

Worth having a couple around just in case. I alos wonder wht would happen if boat was in an open boarders territory with a further AI between your and the other AI boarders. If the closes AI closes baorders then the further AI does where does it GO?

The boat will go to the closest spot that it's able to be in. If you don't have Open Borders with anybody, it will go either to an unclaimed coastal area or back into your territory - whichever is closer.

Apparently he experienced otherwise, or did i misunderstand one (or both ^^) of the posts ?

Im presuming the open borders enabled the boat to go over ocean but it wasnt his own cultural borders but the other civs border or something like that and thus when the other civ closed borders there was no "path" for the boat to go over the ocean to the other continent?

That's just my guess though, its a bit unclear as to what really happened to the OP.
