Over the past few years I recall some threads here in the general discussion forum that were down right hilarious… the ones that had the off the wall humor that only us Civ-players could have were my favorite… sure I came here to learn about the game, exchange strategies on how to play and all that other serious stuff but the comical threads were the best… yes they were off topic & went all over the place but it was all good! I remember one thread I started long time ago called “Message to Firaxis” :) talk about a thread that covered everything and anything :D

Anyhow, lately I have found Civfanatics taking on a much more serious feel… Moderators should be advised, the job you do is very appreciated but watch that your not heavy handed with people… there are ways to ask people to comply, but if your come off more as an enforcer you are just going to turn people off…

I opened this thread not to point fingers but to highlight my thoughts on this… if others have any other thing they wish to add by all means do so… the more feedback the more harmoniously this place will end up running…

Is this because Padma closed your "challenge to cracker" thread?
If so: Stop whining and grow up!;)
If not: Feel free to improve the GD by posting interesting and funny threads that are relevant in this forum....

I found it to be a good thread, some posts in there to be very funny... some of them even gave me ideas that may result in a new mod/scenario...

if you limit freedom too much your not going to have anyone come forward with new innovative ideas... everyone is going to be too worried about - am I spamming, is this relevant etc... this is a game - not the military... we can be goofy and funny at times...

i dont come on here and post things just to get them shut down on my face... there were a wide variety of people that were posting in that thread and it probably got more views and posts than most others in the past few days...

and BTW Darkness - its not whining - its called feedback ;)

Teturkhan,

You are right, and will probably be punished severely for posting this here instead of on the site feedback forum (where you would be punished anyway, lol). This has fast become more a place of rules than a place of people. :(

In some ways I agree, but I must say that a lot of it is often (not true for sure but this is requently the case) boredom with a said subject, and being nostalgic of better days in the past which turn out, when remembering hard, not actually any better.

That is what he is talking about. People should not get PUNISHED SEVERELY because of harmless words!

I know the moderators are trying to keep this forum under control and that is a good thing and they are doing a good job!

This forum should be about having fun with other people;)

 I would have closed that one myself if I weren't on my self imposed sabbatical.

Is it possible to announce start/end of such phase of anarchy err... sabbatical?
:D

I dunno - maybe Chieftess was banned

Somehow I found the idea of a duel appealing.

Teturkhan, shouldn't you have the right to pick a champion to fight for you, if the odds were uneven (or the evens too odd)? ;)

This board does seem to be heavily moderated. I always try and watch my words here whereas the Interplay boards of which I have been a member since 1998 is the opposite. The mods there are alright but too inconsistent and lax at times.

Mind you they do have an 'off topic' forum. I think such a fora should be an essential part of public forums like this so the bizarre, way out and otherwise goofy threads can be put there and not interfere with the game discussions elsewhere.

I have to say though the worst board I've ever seen was the Unreal Tournament 2003 board which was basically the mods permanently banning everyone who badmouthed Infogrames or the UT2003 design team.

Which means it's in the wrong forum. Like Ribannah said: We've got a site feedback forum for that and teturkhan - You could have fooled me...:)

IMO FEEDBACK is direct and should be directed to management, not general public. This looks more like an invitation to a public discussion. It is feedback, yes but belongs in the public forum.

There is a time when everything about a specific game has been exhaustively debated and discussed... people just get bored of the same discussions ("which is the best unique unit?", "what is the best strategy for the early game?"), and they want something new and fresh to debate. This usually leads to some spam, and then the mods have to act over it, and everything ends up leaving a sour taste in the mouth... :(

Nah, we just need time off... otherwise we start finding users to flouge. :sheep::whip:

Oh, and do you think I'd announce a period of anarchy? :hmm:

you guys are right, this should of been in the feedback forum... the reason i did it here is cause i enjoy general discussions more than any of the others... you get such a wide variety of topics, the posts take you everywhere which is good cause really trying to channel all posts into rigid categories sometimes stifles creativity...

I think the moderators have a thankless job - my intent with this thread wasn't to grill them... just to say remember this entire site is about a game... games are played for enjoyment for fun... thus keeping the fun in the site is a must - know what i mean?

there have been threads in the past that I swear were so funny - I would find time to come here and see what was posted each and every day- it was that good :)

its all about balance I guess ;)

PS. The one idea to come from that other thread which I thought was a great one was
They could mod the settler to not create cities, set the map full of barbarians, make them run like hell. the one who survives the longest wins! - Anti EUA
- add a few more elements and you have potentially an awesome scenario - fast, exciting, mulitplayer and easy to create :)
