The Gamecube Thread

F-Zero all the way:)

i loved the GBA f-zero game, so i hope this one will be just as good. also, i've seen screenshots and commercials with game footage, and the graphics look great!

nothing wrong with Soul Calliber, i just think that going 2000 kph two feet from the ground is FREAKIN' AWESOME!

but what i'm really looking forward to is...

ROUGE SQUADRON 3: REBEL STRIKE :D :D :D

I'm planning on getting both eventually, but SC2 first. My cousin imported the jap version and it was awesome, better than the first SC and way better than Soul Blade. I loved the original F-Zero on SNES but was kinda disappointed in the 64 version so hopefully the cube version is better.

$50 for a GBA game? Oh it's a GBC game, yeah, those new releases are expensive.

I played the GC version of Crazy Taxi and I had to say I was hugely disappointed. There are only 1-passenger ferries; in the Dreamcast version you could pick up anywhere from 2-4 people at once to drive to destinations. Also there seems to be less places to drive passengers to and I kept on seeing the same people too many times.

The original mode has a pretty simple city layout where after just a few tries I pretty much had it down. I still needed the green arrow to get there, but I was too familiar with it. In the Dreamcast, playing the same amount of games, I never was very familiar with it.

The arcade version just gets on my nerves. I believe they're replicating S.F (cable cars and hills are a good indicator) and they put in a lot of buses. With a cabbie, you waste seconds ramming a bus. With regular cars you can knock them out of the way but the buses slow you down.

I think the additions of a subway, train network, a bay (lighthouse in there), and a highway are cool, but the gameplay should be improved, not slips a few notches.

do you mean Game Cube when you say GBC?

That would explain a lot tctatheel7. I had absoluetely no idea what hbdragon was talking about. GBC stands for Gameboy Color, so I was thinking, "50 bucks for a old gameboy color game? WTH?" GBA (Gameboy Advance) games only cost 30 BTW, that confused me even more :p

Most first-parties are full price, with the exception of some old popular ones which they lowered to $30. At 40 you get some liscenced/third party crap games, and some good third parties. The lower the price goes, the more liscenced/third party crap games you get.

that's what I thought, but i wasn't sure

Yeah, GC, made a little error.

I just got Soul Calliber II, and yes it is awesome. :D

Got my copy of SC2 yesterday (that was a bit of an adventure in itself) and it is great. I didn't play Soul Blade for PS until very recently so didn't know about the weapon collection thing which IMO is the best feature. The graphics are awesome and Link is a decent character. Necrid however leaves something to be desired. Some of the extra missions are amazingly difficult at least for my button mashing, but most you can still get through. Highly recommend getting a copy if you like fighters, hell even if you don't. Got mine at mediaplay and got a free $10 gift card for buying it, not too bad a deal.

Finally, the moment we've all been waiting for (even the Xbox owners): GAMECUBE BEATS PS2 IN JAPAN!

http://www.gamespot.com/all/news/news_6074679.html

The reason? Tales of Symphonia, and Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles! When hit with two major RPGs from Namco and Square-enix respectively, the 'cubes are being sold. :)

Even if it is only for a few weeks, this is a sure sign of the end of the PS2's dominance over the console market. Before, it was the GC and GBA combined to beat the PS2, now the GBA reigns supreme and the Gamecube beats the PS2. YAY!

Hopefully that success spreads over into the West. I wouldn't call it a 'sure' sign, but its definitely good news. However, I think that it will be the next generation of home systems that will be important; we're halfway through this one, after all, and these battles tend to be decided on a generational basis.

Well, I take back what I said about the GameCube, er, sucking. I've started liking it for some reason, and Soul Caliber II has convinced me to get it. Watch out, GameCubians, here comes WillJ! :)

(It sure will take a bite out of my finances, though...)

And an Xbox wouldn't? :p

Nice to see you're getting a Gamecube now :)

I'm waiting for Viewtiful Joe now, at first I was a bit skeptical, because it does look kinda dumb. 2-D, cel-shaded, AND the main color is pink? That's messed. But then I played a demo of it at a store, and WOW THAT GAME IS GREAT! Anyone who's played the demo would understand ;)

Ahh, about the SC2/F-Zero thing, I played both, and found SC2 more enjoyable, even if I didn't know what I was doing. F-Zero just seemed impossible - I played Mute City, and even though I had good times, I finished near dead last every time. Aagh. In SC2, it was funny in the replay after winning in arcade mode, because I'd see my character swipe air twice before hitting the opponent.

Well, I got my Gamecube, and Soul Calibur 2, about a week ago, and I must say that it is freakin' awesome.

I've ordered Metroid Prime off of eBay. Looks very good. Does anyone have any idea why the average eBay price for it is just under $20? It's retail value is $50, it's often praised as the best game on the Gamecube, and other games that are just as old cost almost twice as much. Could it be that lots of people got it in that "Gamecube for $150 with one free bonus game" deal? (Which it seems like I just barely missed. Arrrgh.) Whatever the case, I can't wait to play it.

Don't forget Super Smash Bros Melee, no Gamecube collection is complete without it. It's a player's choice too so it's retail price is only $30.

I'm actually already sick of Soul Calibur II, which is kind of sad. It's a good game, but I have WAY more fun with SSBM. I think it's because the one-on-one fights just gets a bit monotonous over a while, but it still is awesome.

I never really liked the Super Smash Bros series. I've played both the N64 version and the Melee version (never owned them), and while they're not bad games, I just don't like them that much; I wouldn't pay even $20 for it.

I think what I'll get after Metroid Prime are Zelda: The Wind Waker and NCAA Football 2003. (I'll probably ask for them for Christmas.) I might also get either Super Monkey Ball or The Simpsons: Hit and Run, unless you have any better ideas.

I'm not too crazy about SMB either. While Wind Waker is the undeniable GCN essential, why would you have a Nintendo system without Mario? Luigi's Mansion was good (albeit short), and Super Mario Sunshine is quite good as well.
I'm most anticipating FF Tactics Advance, actually, but Viewtiful Joe will likely be my next GCN game. It's been a while since I've played a truly tongue-in-cheek game.

Well, Luigi's Mansion seems too short (although I could rent it, and I may very well do that), and Super Mario Sunshine looks boring (one of my friends has it). It doesn't seem like there are any Mario games that are more worth getting than some of the other games. At the moment, that is.
