Sure Atheism is a religion, in the literal sense. It just isn't an organised religion with hierarchy etc.

If atheism is a religion, then not collecting stamps is a hobby. :)

As an atheist, I assure you it isn't a religion. It is, however, a position on religion. (I don't mean to play semantics, but there is a marked difference).

Anyway, that's way I suggested 'Secular Humanism' because it is more defined vis-a-vis moral position than atheism.

**Wyz prepares for a fun discussion when we start trying to attribute specifics to each religion**

I sujest you change the comment of not wanting to become hindu before someone gets angry. :o

I'm sure a lot of people would be really angry because I don't want my imaginary French civilization on an imaginary world in a computer game to found an imaginary version of Hinduism. I also said I didn't want my imaginary Aztec civilization on an imaginary world in a computer game to found an imaginary version of Judiasm. I can see why that would piss people off. It is very offensive, isn't it?

The GodMOD
Religions:

Asian
1.) Hinduism (Polythe)
2.) Buddhism (Med)
3.) Shiite Islam (Mono)
4.) Shinto (Theology)
5.) Taoist (Code Laws)
6.) Confucisism (Philo)
7.) ??? (Divine Right)

European:
1.) Norse (Polytheisic)
2.) Druidic (Medi)
3.) Catholic (Mono)
4.) Orthodox (Theology)
5.) Protestantism (Code Laws)
6.) ??? (Philo)
7.) Mormon (Divine Right)

Euro Unique: Greeks and Romans get Hellenistic instead of Norse.

American:
1.) Totemic (Poly)
2.) Shamanistic (Med)
3.) Great Father (Mono)
4.) Spirit Dance (Theology)
5.) Olmec (Code Laws)
6.) ??? (Philo)
7.) Mormon (Divine Right)

Mid-East
1.) Osirian/Egyptian (Poly)
2.) Zorarostarism (Med)
3.) Jewish (Mono)
4.) Sunni Islam (Theo)
5.) Shiite Islam (Code Laws)
6.) Coptic Christianity (Philo)
7.) ??? (Divine Right)

Asian: China, India, Japan, Mongolia
Europe: England, France, Germany, Greece, Rome, Russia, Spain
America: America, Aztecs, Inca
Mid East: Arabs, Egypt, Mali, Persia

For Asia it makes little sense to have Shiite Islam as its religion since it came from Persia, Iraq. So instead replace it with Sikhism...since its monothiestic. Then maybe use Arya Samaj as divine right...the problem is Sikhism came around 1400 AD so it doesn't work in the same time period...as with Arya Samaj which came in 1800's.

Really good ideas so far, I can't wait to see where this leads!!

You were talking about traits/attributes that could be adopted when the religion was founded, I can see that being really cool, but I had an idea.. When someone establishes a religion they get the choice of 2 traits/attributes. When another civ converts to the religion they have to pick one of established traits, but you have a choice of the second one. That would give you a little input into the religion you are adopting, and provides for a little bit more realism. This could effect diplomacy as well, the founding religion could have a negative reaction to you monkeying around with thier religon!!

For example Germany establishes Christianity with the fanatic and artistic traits.
when France converts they pick Artistic and dietary laws, or Fanatic and something else.... just my 2 cents...
:D

I love this idea. The lite version makes for a more "accurate" religion per civ. (as interesting as Hindu Spanish and Christian Aztecs are, it's also a little on the weird side sometimes.) The full version is complex sounding, but the Trait system seems pretty well thought out, allowing for religions that mean something more than names. (of course, I fully realize WHY the designers did it.)

as for atheism, introducing it as a civic is a good idea. and 20% increase in research for the loss of happiness and culture from temples is a fair trade off. it'd be hard to add in, though, given all the new settings.

I look forward to the release of the first version of this mod. I also offer what little help I can provide (mainly, browsing xml files)
