One of the interesting things about civ is the governments.After a bit of thinking,I have concluded their are about 4 paths

#1)stay in despotism.
I d'ont really need to explain this,just people who stay in despotism because they are 2 lazy 2 change.Happens more in Accel.Production.

#2)Despotism,Monarchy,Fascism.(sometimes they may not do Fascism)
For the warrior.The person who inpsires to conquer the world.They build as many units as possible and make their cities have high population.They enjoy the high military police rate which allows them to build units to make their cities happy instead of building.Ect.

#3)despotism,feudalism,communism
The Ism govnment branch.Most people ignore these governments as being to extreme.They are actually my favorite.Users of these governments enjoy moderate military police and high production.Communism is very useful because it diverts alot of the corruption to your main ones;IE:the ones that have enough production and people to remove that corruption.Because of this,this chain is very effective.Also,Communism comes right when your military support starts whering down.Usually played by the very expansionist.

#4)despotism,Republic,Democracy
Users of these governments enjoy high commerce and therefor science.They are usually the peaceful builder type.They have no need for much military suport,for all they have are workers and defense that is very modern.Since they spent most of their time building citie improvements,they have no need for military police,since their citizen's are happy enuf.Most users might want to turn down agressin cuz of ww

Sorry bout the poll I scrued up

I take #4 but I cut it off to despotism->republic since I don't find it to be worth changing to democracy.

Fuedalism and High pop? Dont mix well together.... IIRC in fued you have higher units support for smaller citys and lower support for bigger ones...

@ Swiss Bezerker: ask a mod to clean up your poll. :)

My path: despot - republic. No demo for me. A variant of #4 IOW.

Warmongers build offensive units and attack with them. They do not enjoy having idle units as military police. They prefer Republic for the additional commerce, and use luxury tax to make keep their people happy.

despot-> republic like said before, I enjoy being able to go to war whenever it suits me to do so, not having to change governments
If i'm playing religious I'll change to whatever gov suits my needs at the time

Despotism -> Monarchy -> Democracy.

That's my usual path, sometimes Republic instead of or after Monarchy.

WW is rarely an issue, so I'm not just a peaceful builder with a low number of defense units - I keep my defense high so I can survive while I muster an offensive against the aggressor or my victims ;)

Despotism => Feudalism => Democracy

OR

Despotism => Republic

I've tried to don't go through the Despotism stage by telling my PC how kind I am... but he doesn't believe me! :eek:

I usually go Despotism->Republic too, sometimes Despotism->Republic->Democracy, although I think I may start playing around with different governments depending on how aggressive I want my civ to be. I usually like the casual builder approach, but tinker with warrior like races like the Aztecs.

Despotism -> Rep -> Demo (if religious)
I rarely declare war, so WW is not really a problem for me.

Despotism ---> Republic.

On rare occassions:
Despotism ---> Republic ---> Communism

Always despotism -> republic. One of these days I'll have to try communism, but I never research it and I seem to do just fine in republic even with a huge number of cities.
